Yes, rather creative, Sam I am. I am a an adult with an education, and I do not ever use spell check and only occasionally a dictionary. The word atheist is derived from the word theist. When you put an "A" in front of a word, it means the opposite-you can probably find my statement in a dictionary SOMEWHERE.
Therefore, the word atheist is some one who rejects, or the opposite of, a theist. If the reader has a brain, further explanation is not necessary.

In Greek the word Atheist means literally 'without a God'. I don't know what the scientific definition for this word is now since you won't allow me to LOOK IT UP!

Atheism is the personal philosophy of not adhering to any religious dogma. We have hundreds of years of collective knowledge and understanding about the Earth, the life upon it that existed before and that exists now, and the vastness of space. This collected aggregation of scientific data runs counter to religion, which requires a belief without evidence to support such a belief.

Why isn't it a question for Atheists? Who better to answer it?

Plus, who's crying about the existence of the word "Atheist" in spell checker? It's good you bothered to find that out: We're used to people who don't. Kudos on at least that much.

Good luck in finding the answer you seek. I'm eager to hear a few, myself.

Here's how the word breaks down:

a- (prefix) meaning "absent, lacking, without"
theism (noun) meaning "belief in the existence of a god or gods"

theism word parts:
● theos, the Greek word for "god, deity"
● ism, a noun meaning "belief or system of beliefs"

SO.... put it all together and you get "atheism", simply meaning "without god belief" or, to put it a bit more eloquently, "lack of belief in the existence of a god or gods".

By the way, I didn't have to look any of this up. I already KNOW all of this.

Seems like you are the one crying.

For those counting, this question is ANOTHER atheist-bashing question courtesy of your tolerant theists.

Have a nice day.

PS Congrats on figuring out how to use the spell checker. A major accomplishment since it is not covered in your book of fairy tales.

Atheism is just a symptom of rational thinking.

A - Theist = "no God"
My definition of the people who call themselves Atheist on Yahoo answers are not Atheist at all. They are Anti Christ. A person who does not believe would have no interest in converting Christians to some form of self worshiping humanist Anti Christ.
I.E. I don't believe in UFO's. I can not prove they do not exist nor do I spend my time and effort trying to disprove and convert all the UFO believers. That is just foolishness. The same should go for us Christians. We should carry the good news to those who have not heard it, not shove it down the throat's of those who have already decided to reject Jesus.
IMHO.

I didn't look it up, I just know a little Latin.

A=Without

The=God or Religion

Ism=Belief

I'm a Lutheran (the first Protestant branch of Christianity, for those of you who are historically ignorant) and I personally don't understand what all of the, by definition, "Without belief in religion and/or God"-ers are doing in the religion section of this forum.
