It's been asked, time and time again, what people are glad they learned here in R&S. But is there something you learned that you wish you hadn't?

The confirmation that Xtians are among the most willfully ignorant people on the planet. Beyond redemption.

I can't say that I've learned anything that I wish I hadn't learned. But it surprises me to see so many people claiming to be logical and intelligent use a generalization of a group of people based on limited dealings with strangers online. It's amazing to see people use those generalizations as the definition of all individuals within the generalized group. But now I no longer have to wonder why people from other countries think Americans are all nuts.

I wish I hadn't learned about Susan J's death, I want to go on believing that she's just fine out there, perhaps trolling under a new name, doing just fine, recovering from her last stroke--now I have this big empty place in my little black heart and it's never going to get filled up again

Yes.

I wish I didn't know anyone would stoop as low as the clone did.

I wish I didn't know there were people who would insult me for keeping my avatar showing my son and I.

I wish I didn't know there were people hateful and vile who persecute gays till they suicide.

I wish I didn't know the world is on a path of destruction soon to be inevitable if we do not reverse course on global warming.

I wish I did not know there are people with monumental egos who starve children and make war on the innocent.

I wish I lived in a world where people genuinely loved each other and our home.

Unfortunately, I have learned that people do not own their truth and that they have to rely on holy books and others' opinions to tell them what they need to believe. And still not owning it, they try to FORCE that truth on others because they are convinced that it is the ONLY truth.

Shallow. Judgmental. Weak. Ineffective. Living a Lie. (I know, I know -- judge not . . . .)

I've learned that you can't reason with obsessed people, particularly those obsessed with making other people's lives difficult.

I've learned that the spiritual state of the world is worse off than I ever possibly imagined. Judgment, hatred, and bigotry still hold more importance than reason and logic.

I have learned that people are not nearly as unique or complex as I thought they were. It seems we are pretty simple.
I wish I hadn't learned that.
