(this is in response to a recent question by she who's name...)

jesus was on death row, but he was innocent. in the earlier question you all went on and on about how innocent people get put on death row.

yet you support the death penalty? so this means, had you been living back then, you would have been all for jesus dying right?

For the past 30 odd years I have been to a Baptist church, catholic church, non-denomination churches and the mosque. My grandmother was jehovahs withess and I also attended as a child.

I have begun to study with witnesses again and studying the bible is enlightening. However after several months of attending the kingdom hall I have become bored and to make my eight year old sit through an hour of studying the watchtower each sunday seems cruel. The songs don't move me at all. They also agressively demand a lot of my time. The hope of everlasting life is wonderful.

But what do they give back to their faithful patrons. Other churches have day care centers, help for the poor, activities other than bible study for its members, singles organizations, etc.

All i see is that theor main objective is to recruit more members. But how do you hold the interest of your new recruits should be addressed.

What can I do? He has been on prayer chains for the last 4 years. I am praying for his salvation and have reached a point where I understnad that I need to change my heart so that it is more important that he be saved than it is important that he come back to me (we still live together but he acts very distant and angry). The situation is a series of tragedies.....and he got mad at God and eventually gave up on Him altogether. I drew near to Christ, even though I didn't know what that meant (at the time)....and now there is a wedge between us. My husband makes fun of my need to go to church more than once a week (which is the only way I survive the many financial, physical and emotional burdens we have). I am considering a separation.....I can't just leave---even our pastor said get an agreement first because he isn't paying his bills while we are together and we could dissolve everything in a short time if I jsut leave. Thoughts? Help? Prayers???

Or is that an oxymoron?

Aside from being old as the hills, I am aphasic, which is a communication disorder. Language is more than a small challenge to me, and I've devoted almost 15 years to recovery. The rub is that language is doggoned important to me. I am always seeking new words, new usage, new ways of saying things. Everybody probably knows this one, but to me it's new--fundamentalists are:

American Taliban

Vocal, well-financed, extreme fundamentalist Christians attempting to legislate the oppression of homosexuals, women and science at the expense of our national schools, national health and U.S. Constitution. The equation of these politically and financially powerful extreme fundamentalist Christians with the Afgani Taliban --violent extreme fundamentalist Muslims-- emphasizes the false patriotism of these American zealots.

Ok, i have the same problem with both the Noah's ark story and also the Adam and Eve story...

How is it possible for a whole population to be born from 2 members of a species??? I understand that the 2 could have some kids, but then what? If you inbreed that closesly, the gene pool gets so screwed up and all the babies are seriously deformed...is this even possible?

I'm not asking what you believe or for this to become an argument between an athiest and a christian or anything...i just was wondering if, scientifically, that's possible to start a whole species successfully, from only two members.

My bioligy teacher herd and gave me wierd looks the whole year. Since christans are suposed to be 'so great' why dont the accept the way I think. If your a Christan would you just not talk to me because I dont belive in god? And if your not, dont you find this the least bit insulting?

I know tons of Christians and I've never known any of them to strap a bomb to their chest and blow up innocent people or to use innocent people as human shields during combat. or fire rockets at innocent women and children.

In the name of God , the beneficent, the merciful

Read in the name of thy Lord Who created.

created man from a clot.

Read thy Lord is the Most high,

who taught by the pen,

taught man which he knew not.

Despite this, man still rebels

because he thinks that he is independent

However, (all things) will return to your Lord

nay! most surely man does transgress (all bounds)."

for he thinks himself self-sufficient."

verily, to your lord is the return .

have you seen him who forbids

a servant when he prays? (1)

have you seen whether he is on (the road of) guidance?

or enjoins piety?

have you seen if he reiects and turns away?"

does he not know that God surely sees?"

nay! if he desist not, we will certainly seize him by the forelock,

a lying, sinful forelock! (2)

Let him call on his associates for help

and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell.

(Muhammad),nay! heed him not; but prostrate yourself and draw nigh
(to God)."

Holy Quran

The occasion of the revelation:

as it was mentioned in the description of the content of this sura,
is the first sura that came to the heart of the holy prophet (s)
some have even said that all the commentators believe that the first five verses,
of the sura, were the first direct revelation to the holy prophet (s).
their contents confirm this idea, too.

some narrations denote that the holy prophet (s) had gone
to mount hira when gabriel came and told him: "iqra'" (read/
proclaim). he said that he was not `versed'. gabriel embraced him and
told him again to proclaim; and the prophet (s) repeated the same
answer. gabriel embraced him for a second time, but was given the
same answer. then, for the fourth time he told him: "read (proclam!)
in the name of your lord who created", (and recited the first five verses).

finishing the verse, gabriel then took leave from the prophet(s).

the messenger of allah, his energy spent due to receiving the
first rays of revelation, went to his wife, khadijah, and told her: "cover
me; wrap me in a mantle.".

the following is a tradition from tabarsi, in majma'-al-bayan, and
he cites that the messenger of allah told khadijah that whenever he
was alone he heard a voice.

according to tabarsi khadijah told mohammad (s): "allah
will not bring anything on you but goodness because you are trustworthy and
pay the deposits, you observe bonds of relationship, and you are truthful in
speech."

khadijah said this statement and, then, she went to see
waraqah-ibn nufil. (he was khadijah's cousin and was of the
knowledgeable arabs.) she described to him what had happened to
mohammad (s) and added that he had heard the voice say: "o
mohammad say: `bismillah-ir-rahman-ir-rahim,
al - hamd - u - lillah - i - rabb - al - 'alamin (to the end of sura
fatihah)'; and say: `la ilaha illallah'.".

waraqah said: "rejoice thou! rejoice thou! according to what is
mentioned in taurat and ingeel it is clear that he is the messenger of allah
and he is the very one that jesus christ told about in his glad tidings. he
has a religion like that of moses; he is an apostle. he will be told to fight in
the holy war soon after this, and if i am alive then, i will be with him in
that holy war."

later, when waraqab died, the messenger of allah said: "i saw
him in heaven (the heaven of the lesser judgment) having a high rank for
he had believed in me and confirmed me."

(1) a servant when he prays?"

does such a person not deserve the divine punishment?

in traditions it is said that abu-jahl inquired of the people around
him: "does mohammad put his face on the ground (for prostration)
amongst you, too?" they answered that he did. then, he said: "by what
we take an oath to, if i see him in that state i will tread his neck under my
foot". at that moment they told him to look; that the prophet was
praying thereabout.

abu-jahl went to tread the prophet's (s) neck under
his foot, but when he approached him he stopped and it seemed as if he
was pushing something away from himself with his hand. he was asked
what was the matter with him, and he answered: "suddenly, i saw a ditch
of fire between me and him; a frightful thing, and i saw some wings and
feathers, too."

the messenger of allah (s) said about this: "by the one in
whose hand is my life, if he had come close to me, the angels of allah would
have torn his body to pieces and taken them away one by one."

it was on this occasion that the above verses were revealed. 1
in conformity with those traditions, the above verses were
revealed at the beginning of the prophetic mission. they were not
revealed later when the call of islam was known to all. hence, some
believe that only the firs five verses of this sura were revealed at the
beginning of the prophetic mission and the rest were revealed after a
considerable length of time.

(2) "a lying, sinful forelock!"

in any event, the objective meaning that abu-jahl, or the likes of
him, will be seized by his forelock and dragged on to the blazing fire, is
that this happening occurs in the hereafter or in this world or in both of
them. its witness is the narration cited in tafsir-i-fakhr-i-rzai (vol. 32,p. 23).

the term /nasiyah/ means 'forelock', and `its seizing' is said for the
case when a person is to be taken to something with humiliation,
because when the forelock of a person is seized he can do nothing but
submit to the circumstances.

the word /nasiyah/, of course, is used for both men and precious
things. it is used in some other senses, too.
the words "a lying, sinful forelock" refer to a person with a
forelock who was both a lier and sinful like abu-jahl.

I know, "Adam and Eve were created perfect, and they made a mistake, so it's not the Creator's fault, it's their fault." I know.

But isn't that a little too simple? They were the first two humans that were created. It's not like they were influenced by something that wasn't created, they were obviously created with the ability to do stupid things. And other things were obviously created to make them do stupid things, like eating apples.

So, if we're all sinners, shouldn't we at least be a little upset with a God who created us that way?
