(this is in response to a recent question by she who's name...)

jesus was on death row, but he was innocent. in the earlier question you all went on and on about how innocent people get put on death row.

yet you support the death penalty? so this means, had you been living back then, you would have been all for jesus dying right?

It does seem that the death penalty was all the rage back in those days.

Thank goodness we've moved on since then.

You're getting two ideas mixed up here. One is that all Christians want to see people put to death, and the other is that we should defer God's Laws because of our inability to determine guilt or innocence with 100% accuracy.

Many Christians do support the death penalty, and we can of course cite the Bible for why we support it. Like any other reasonable people, we still want to do everything possible to determine guilt or innocence accurately before a person loses their life needlessly.

God's perspective is understandably different. Every crime should see swift justice, and God's Laws concerning this allow for some human error. Since every human is going to die sooner or later anyway, maybe it's not as big a deal from where God sits. In any case, it doesn't take much evidence to be found guilty in the Old Testament.

If I, or you for that matter, had been alive in Israel 2,000 years ago we would have been indoctrinated into those cultural norms from birth and would probably accept His death as a routine event and par for the course. This statement is of course completely conjecture, which is what your question seemed to be after, so I hope this answer helps somehow.

Simply because many Christians, including myself, support capital punishment for certain crimes, we (or at least I) do not support the judgment of an innocent person. This would be very unfortunate, and such instances are disgraceful. Jesus happened to be one of those people, who was innocently tried for a crime he did not commit.

Interestingly, Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea, found no fault with Jesus. However, many religious officials accused Jesus of blasphemy, because they did not believe he was the Son of God. Pilate was afraid that he would come under scrutiny from senior authorities, and decided to satisfy the desires of the people. Consequently, Jesus was sentenced to death.

I WIILL HONESTLY ADMIT that I am working with a 'certain state' - will NOT say which one - right now! I am try to get NOTHING LESS than LIFE/NO PAROLE - when ANYONE is CONVICTED with DNA involving Child Abuse/Molestation - or ?~!!! I STILL PRAY for them that The Lord will Touch their Hearts - where They will Know HIM!

These people 'GET OUT' and make Brand New Victims!!!! 'This' is something that No One gets over for a life-time! So these Monsters disearve NOTHING LESS!

Yes, I DO support the 'Death Penalty' - there are so many MONSTERS AROUND!!!!!! Why should my Tax money pay for 'Them' to live - when I talk to grieving families that have lost their "Loved Ones" so Horribly!!!!! YES I DO! WHY NOT! I'm NOT SCARED to admit this.

Well, actually I don't support the death penalty. Also, even if I did, I certainly wouldn't be in favor of the death of a person I believed to be innocent.

Let me ask you this, what would you prefer we do with certain people if he or she were to bludgeon - shoot etc a person in your family?
Do you think it's fair for us the tax payers to pay for his hotel expenses (prison) to be educated receive three meals each day a warm bed to sleep in each night and the opportunity to have visits from family members.
Then forget the families that lost that person who still grieves for that child or person and having to pay for that persons crime by living in limbo for that loss. The pain is immeasurable.

I am not saying I believe in the death penalty either, but you tell me what would you do?? This person still has the opportunity to be released on good behaviour.
So what would you think if he or she were to commit the same crime after been sent out into the world again.

What our Lord did he did for the souls of his people.
He knew before hand that this was about to happen.
We would not be here today if it were not for our lord
who had the forsight to give the human race a second chance
to show our love and hopefully forgive those who trespass.

Have you read the Ten Commandments. they make alot of sense don't they??

God bless Nave a nice day

No, I would not have been! Because Pilot did not want to do as the Priests wanted him too, he allowed the people to choose between Jesus and Barabas! Well Barabas was very popular for being a true rebel towards the Roman rule! Jesus was not as well known and taught love! The Jews were looking for one who would set them free! So, in their minds, that choice would have been Barabas.

Check into that culture and time period and you will understand why. There is no way to compare the what if's! Jesus came to die! And he did just for you!

What non Christians don't seem to understand is that Jesus was born so that He could die for our sins.

It was no accident.

When the Roman Catholic Church claimed that Jesus was murdered by the Jews, its clear that they themselves did not understand salvation.

And yes I support the death penalty.

The Bible tells us in the Old and the New Testaments that its the job of governments to protect the rest of us by making evil people forfeit their own lives.

You can read about this many places in the Bible.

In the New Testament its in Romans 13.

Jesus wasn't innocent. He was a rabblerouser and a political agitator. He was a threat to the security of Rome and therefore executed as a political criminal.
