That a day in the creation is a thousand years? It is probably not doctrine, just something written by one of the 12 apostles in a book I read in the 80's or something.

Is this the difference between scientists, philosophers etc (truth-seekers) and the religious (comfort-seekers)?

We view God as an eternal entity whose power is equal to his/her will.

The following quote from Albert Einstein also offers a good Deistic description of God:

"My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble minds. That deeply emotional conviction of the presence of a superior reasoning power, which is revealed in the incomprehensible universe, forms my idea of God."

... or is that what one must do to become one of those folks who sends illegible hate mails full of nonsensical rhetoric?

Just curious. It might explain a few things, though, if true.

It's philosophy, sociology as well as history.

Since it is some of the oldest history we have I try to see how we've evolved mentally from it.

Best I can tell humans on the inside haven't changed much, we still struggle with love and hate whether it's directed at ourselves or others.

Just curious, my Pastor told us not to read Harry because of the witch Craft and the spells in the book really work, but a lot of Christians I know, go ahead and read the Harry Potty books anyways. What say ye, Mormons? And what about vidoe games, when I was a mormon, I couldn't go see "R" movies, or llisten to music with backmasking in it or some rock'n'roll songs that had drug referances.

Some atheist was critisizing some religious people on not doing enough and here is one famous saying of Jesus Christ.

James 2: 14My friends, what good is it to say you have faith, when you don't do anything to show that you really do have faith? Can that kind of faith save you? 15If you know someone who doesn't have any clothes or food, 16you shouldn't just say, "I hope all goes well for you. I hope you will be warm and have plenty to eat." What good is it to say this, unless you do something to help? 17Faith that doesn't lead us to do good deeds is all alone and dead

If my question offends anyone please except my apology it is not my intention. Being rasied around Christians & Church all my life I can truley say I know less now than I ever did before. I really don't know if there is a God/Jesus or if the bible is true. My main objection is this: If God is God and created everything in the universe, the heavens, the stars, the complexity of life on this planet...then I'm being asked to believe his response to mankind
is a middle eastern book written 1000's of years ago. I've been told to "just pray" and ask him to show you through the Holy Spirit (42 years and counting BTW) I know that many Christians don't believe as well...they want to just as I did...but if they were honest...they don't know the Jesus they say they do...just the biblical historic figure that is as distant as a person read about in a novel. Does he really exist..the older I get the less faith I have. You start to see it as ancient writing...dead & empty
What have I missed?

I myself am not a Muslim, but I am so tired of the ignorance of those who surround me and tell it is "evil" or "backwards". Each faith has differing customs and beliefs, so why should it come as a surprise to Americans that Islam is different than What they are familiar with (Christianity)? How many people have taken the time to do independant research on Islam, instead of regurgitating what they have been told or forming baseless opinions formed on what a few people out of BILLIONS did to our country? Did you ever stop to wonder that there are just as many fanatical Christians out there? Abortion clinic bombings? Oklahoma city? do any of these sound familiar, or are they conveniently forgotten? We owe much of our knowledge in Mathematics, Science, etc. to the stability that Islam brought to much of the world during the European "dark ages". That is not to say everything went perfect (library of Alexandria burning), but that was because of a fanatic. Do any of you stop to think about

I am not against any religion, nor am I a non believer, but this question has me perplexed and maybe someone can explain this to me....

If we were all spawned from Adam and Eve in the Middle East, and were not able to cross the oceans until 1400 A.D. or so, how were there thousands of people already here in North America and South America with established nations?

There is no possible way enough people could have crossed from Russia to populate 10,000 miles of landmass, and there was no seagoing vessel capable of traversing the oceans.

Even if they could have came from Russia, it doesn't explain how Islands such as Hawaii and the Falklands could have had any people on it.

Also there is no possible way for every region of the earth to have its own "type" of people, ie. skin color, facial features, unless the earth were far older and humans had a chance to evolve.

Any explanations?

Or should we just have "faith" in our creator.

According to Genesis 1:11-16, this "God" creature created the sun and moon on the third day, and plants on the second day, but how is that possible? Plants need sunlight into order to grow and survive. So how could plants stay alive without sunlight?

Where is hell located? When I was little I was always told that if I was good I would go *up there*, but if not then the devil would get me and I would go *down there*....so just exactly where is hell? It would have to be someplace with a lake of fire, right? And if anyone has them I would like coordinates please....

Christianity, Islamic, Catholic and Jews are all religions based on being at peace with the world but seems people keep finding reasons to use religion to separate us even further apart from each other. Despite the subtle differences, we seek one main goal. Peace.
