I find them all interesting , but none totally compelling enough to blindly follow. It is of interest to me what has happened in history and is happening right now because of zealots

I studied all of them (well, all the major ones, anyway). The insight I gained: Religions are fine for primitive, uneducated people who have no other way of explaining their world. They're also a great device for a few ambitious men to control millions of other lives. They have no place in modern, scientific societies if those societies expect to advance and succeed. Religions also make for poor government, because they offer such a narrow view of reality.
You're right, education is an amazing thing. I just wish there was more of the right sort.

Yes. As a teenager, I spent two weeks in India and learned a lot about Hinduism. It really was an eye opening experience for me and I found the culture and religion fascinating. I went to a Hindu temple one day and watched the believers pray. At the end of the trip, I had an elephant statue and a calendar of goddesses as souvenirs.

You know...I do try, but when I ask question's some how people start taking offense. I won't even mention what I believe in and they are already calling me a Christian or whatever religion it is that pisses them off. It's hard to get to know a religion from a person who practices it.

i agree with you. i think everyone should learn about diffrent religions to get a better understanding and acceptance. it would cut down on hate in the world for sure. i've learned just a little of islam, hinduism, bhuddism, judaism, and i'm a christian. it makes me kind of sad to hear of people who jsut accept their religion because that's all they've been told about.

Absolutely. As a Christian, I REALLY, REALLY dig the writings of Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh; especially "Living Buddha, Living Christ."
