I chose to be Pagan of my own accord. No one "converted me". And I was completely self-aware when I made the choice. I did not choose it because of difficult times nor do I feel I have "escaped reality". I still believe in science but I do know that there are some things science cannot answer. And I also know that no matter how advanced science gets it will never be able to explain WHY everything exists at all. So to answer the WHY I turn to my religion.

I'm probably not what others would call "religious", but I'm pretty sure you're entirely missing the point of faith.
You call it "escaping reality", but I suppose you're doing that because nobody can provide you any "proof". But that's the underlying foundation of faith and, thus, why it's called faith.
If faith could be scientifically proven, then it wouldn't take any faith or much effort to follow, would it? It wouldn't be much of a test or life lesson.
And although you were semi-respectful, there is still alot of implied religious insult in your question. Insulting people of faith, whether you have it or not, makes you a small person. I'm sure you're better than this. Live and let live. Even an atheist should be able to follow that.

I don't think people would be able to understand the truth of the matter. But here it goes. People are born into sin, that is why humans die, because of sin. Being converted from sinful man requires a change in a mans nature, man can not change his nature himself. This is done when the living true God, Jesus Christ calls a man. The Christ does the changing from the inside out, after man has repented and is baptized in Jesus Name for the remission of sin, The Christ puts his spirit inside the man, this spirit is called the Holy Ghost. And it's the Holy Ghost that changes a person from inside out. This is what happened to me, and all the real people, of the true living God.

Okay, here's my story........
In my youth i doubted my existance as a matter of fact......
Suicide was never really an option, However I did think once or twice that that would indeed allow a certain level of clarity
So i studied all the ancient texts possible, everything that could be gotten I got and read..........
Buddha said to hold the truth, once found, tightly to yourself and never let it go, that thier are two paths, One all crazy and all over the place and one straight forward to Nirvana. Buddha said the virtue of virtues would be to sacrafice oneself for another, the greatest would be that one sacrifice himself for all people, through out the world and History circa 500 years before Christ, 1500 miles away

How do you know that you are not escaping reality by not believeing in God so that you can justify doing things the way you want to do them and not having to answer to a higher power?

I really never thought that I became religious. I am not very church minded any more. I didn't learn about Jesus until I got into the Word of God reading for myself. I prayed to the Father and asked for the Holy Spirit to come in and guide me. At a young age I was saved and baptised but 12 years ago God called me to Him. He started revealing Himself to me and I began to understand the Word of God for the first time in my life. I don't think we ever know the truth of the entire Bible, but God gives us enough truth to sustain us. The Bible is written line upon line, precept upon precept and here a little and there a little. It will always explain itself but we often must search for this. When you think it is contradicting, keep searching and you will understand that you misunderstood. God doesn't make any mistakes. We just don't understand.

I do not know about "religious" people... But those of The True Christian Faith know The Truth of God and willingly submit to His leading. One can not be born or "raised" to become a True Christian.. Only those God Calls and who answer in The Way He prescribes become part of The Body of The Church... Only God decides who is a True Christian.

That is a very condescending question. Can you imagine someone believing something because they have faith? Some people have been known to turn to God during good times, not just hard times.
I think that you are a religious bigot. Funny, but racial bigotry is considered evil, but religious and sexual/orientation bigotry is considered smart.

i've grown up around religious people so naturally i began to believe it at a young age. as i've gotten older i'm questioning things and deciding what it is i believe in. i just keep telling myself "why not live like there is a god? it's a good way to live. treat people the way you want to be treated, keep an open mind, and try to do good things for people." what's the harm in that?

People have different ways of coping. While I don't consider myself to be religious, I am spiritual. It seems to me that some people need faith to get them through the difficult times.
