Why are people so serious about religion instead of having fun with their life while they can?

Do you believe in a God--and why?

Along with the list, I'm also looking for a few more pieces of information. When was the committee formed to decide which books were going to be considered as 'canon', and how long did the process take? Who were the people that made the decisions, and how many were there? Along with the books that didn't make the cut, did the committee give information as to why the books weren't included or did they just say yes or no (I mean, now we can give educated guesses as to why they weren't included, but I was wondering if there was any information given at the time)? Also, is there a decent book/translation that someone could recommend that is a collection of these other books? I know it's a lengthy question, and I thank you all in advance for your answers.

clearly a guise to fool people into thinking that they love everyone as Jesus taught when the key word here is "hate" and their actions are often anything but loving? And why is it that religious opinion can be used to legislate against homosexuality? Not all Christians agree on this issue and not everybody is a Christian. So, why should religious opinion have any bearing on this issue outside of the homes of those that choose to allow it to have a bearing on their own lives?

I'm not looking for Bible quotes or "because it's against God" answers.I'm looking for direct answers to these questions.I want to understand why people feel that it is ok to treat this issue the way they do and why, if this issue is so important to them, they don't try to ban all other faiths or legislate every word of the Bible into the law of the land. Why draw a line on one issue but be tolerant of another?I know, having studied the Bible, that there are many biblical sins that are legal but far worse.

In our church, we are taught that the KJV is the truest form of the Bible, and that NIV has been ammended/changed too much (although easier to read). Who has the authority to make these changes? I thought God was very specific not to add a page or take away a page from the Bible? Thanks.

Clearly, the bible was a book written by a bunch of guys who wanted to control the masses and gain power and it sure worked!

There are some good things in the "bible' like don't kill and things but you can't figure that out on your own without some fake god telling you. Religious people are a bunch of silly pants!

I see there is some low level work being done in labs mixing human
and animal cells. I read in some journals that they mixed some human
and pig cells let them divide about 36 divisions before destroying
them. Though such feats were impossible a few decades back, science
fiction once again is becoming a reality.

There is talk of creating chimeras (part human, animal) in the future
to work in dangerous, hostile environments such as the deep sea
(human x fish, dolphins) perhaps the ocean in the moon Europa or Mars
someday. Sadly, the 100 year old HG Wells novel, of the Island of Dr.
Moreau may become a reality someday. The Stalinist regime in the
1930's apparently tried to cross humans with apes without success to
have a new kind of strong soldier-slave caste.

Now I regard this sort of work and research as an abomination to God,
countries around the world are trying to ban this type of research
but you all know as well as I do that there will always be people
to try it.

that is NOT rooted in science? I'm looking for something concrete, not the cliche, "the Bible isn't real" or "let's believe in fairies in the sky" stuff. Is science the basis for non-believers beliefs?

(I kindly request that no one cite inaccuracies in the Bible. I, personally, don't believe because "The Bible told me so")

Such as a 4 year old seeing a piano for the first time and immediately start playing a masterpiece, creating a work of art, etc.? No one in their family has ever played the piano or painted, or whatever.
I'm not trying to start a nasty debate...just want your view on something I have a hard time grasping about your beliefs. I like to learn about what others think about the world we live in.
Thanks.
