I've been given a new course called "Our Global World" in the middle school I teach at. I've decided to make the first semester into a religious studies course and would like to incorporate videos into the course at appropriate intervals with an eye towards comparison and analysis.

Aside from "The 10 Commandments" and "Kingdom of Heaven" what are some other videos that are appropriate for 7th/8th graders that deal with the major religions of the world? Specifically I'm looking for something both entertaining and informative about Islam, Confucianism, Buddhism, Hinduism, and any others that are appropriate.

I have been very religious all my life, but after doing extensive research for a year I have come to conclude there is no evidence for God. Being a believer was always so much fun for me, and now that I am an atheists it's got me seriously depressed. How do you get over that?

20:1 "And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a great chain. 2 He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. 3 He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time. .........Rev 20:7 When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison 8 and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth--Gog and Magog--to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore."

Here's the full chapter.

So does this mean after the thousand year reign with Christ, Satan is going to be released and tempt the nations once again? Or What is it talking about? Thoughts.

Some people say that God won't intervene to help someone in trouble because he doesn't want to interfere with free will. Does that mean a person should be a witness to a murder and not do anything to interfere with the murderer's free will?

"Can you prove that the incorporeal dragon living in my garage doesn't exist? Can you prove that leprechauns don't exist?" --Copied from the awesome intellectual property of Neo Frehley.

You cannot prove non-existence. In order to do so, you would have to know EVERYTHING that exists. Dr. Ravi Zacharias said it best, in my opinion:

"“Being an atheist is really interesting because to be a classic atheist you must know for certain that no god exists anywhere either in our outside the known universe and to do that you must know everything about everywhere both inside and outside the known universe...and well...that would make you God.”

Dr. Ravi Zacharias

So, as my homie just pointed out, that makes all of you agnostic at best. Is this correct in your mind? Why or why not?

Autism is a genetic condition, so those with an autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) have no control over it. Part of the way an autistic mind works is an inability to comprehend things which are outside one's direct experience. This broadly relates to autistic theory of mind. This means that when an autistic person is witnessed to, it is unlikely approaching impossible that 'the word' can be understood. Even if this person is 'pricked by the spirit' it would not be possible to relate this to god, being an external and abstract concept.

Now I'm not saying it's impossible for a person with an ASD to become a christian - certainly for a time I was, and I have Asperger's Syndrome - although perhaps the assertion that I was never a 'true christian' is valid. In my experience of knowing 30 individuals with an ASD, not one of them was a christian. I understand that a sample of 30 is not neccessarily representative.

Given this 'disability' to believe, do people with ASD get a free pass ?

-But, it also condemns unrepentant divorced/remarried people to hell....as it says adulterers will not inherit the kingdom of God...and the book of Luke tells us that he who divorces and remarries is committing adultery.

-I have heard many fire and brimstone sermons about this verse as it relates to homosexuals...but, not one as it relates to divorced/remarried people.

-Why is this? Why don't churches preach about divorce? The Bible says far more about divorce than it does about homosexuality.

-Are you afraid of alienating your monetary contributors if you preach the entire word?

-Is it right to pick and choose, not only which verses to preach on...but, pick and choose only part of a verse?

-Isn't this a double standard.

-I do not believe divorced people are going to hell..anymore than homosexuals...as I do not believe in a literal interpretation of scripture....but, want to know from the fundamentalists...why exactly do you pick and choose which sins are worse?

Is it possible for a person of another religion to baptize a catholic child? My best friends are a catholic and christian. Isn't it supposed to be that religion doesn't matter as long as they lead them into Christ? Do the godparents HAVE to be catholic?

2007-05-23 06:47:37 · 25 answers · asked by Ruby S 1

Those of us who have children- do you ever discipline them, or confront them about their behavior? Do you just tolerate what they are doing "because you love them so much". I hope not. God is our father, and He has His commands we must obey- if he tolerated us, God would not have sent Jesus. His love was shown on the cross- but He desires a change in behavior as well, and we are held accountable for that. IF someone is sinning, we should gently confront because we want what is best for others- not to make us look better, because we are sinners saved by grace- Tolerating sin is not love, it is apathy

It is impossible to be 100% sure their is a God or if their isn't. Can atheists have an open mind. Could God be disguising himself really well just to test us? What is there to lose if you believe in him?

I never once tried to prove that God exists, I'll save that for another day. Not that it hasn't been done before, but sometimes generations just need to be reminded. Anyways, so whats the deal? You have no proof that God doesn't exist but you jump down our throats and call us stupid? Now, i'm not defending the people who tried to use the Bible to convince you God is real, thats just crazy. God is self evident to us and its just a matter of time before the coin flips over for you and it reads, "God is eternal". Thanks for answering my questions.

Christians are taught to "love thy neighbor." Yet they ALL hate someone! Being black, Jewish, gay, atheist, or what have you! Judge no one or you will be judged yourself! Shut up you Christians! Practice what you preach for once!

See, point proven! You are right about me attacking Christians! What you are not thinking of though, is why do Christians go to the GLBT topics and attack us? Sounds to me like Christians need to take the "purpose to learn something about us rather then to launch an attack." Doesn't that sound hypocritical now...

I see over and over name calling and belittling on these questions posed in the Religious section. If it is not your religion, the one you were raised with and feel is your belief system why degrade or slander or belittle it?

In psychology it is said that we often attack and try to belittle what we do not understand, this is often a defense mechanism caused by fear, and often fears is only the misguided reaction to something we do not understand.

Why be so ugly towards others that ask questions dealing with different religions here? I can not personally believe that any God would be proud of some of the abusive, childish post shared here in response to some pretty sincere questions.

It is fine to defend your religious beliefs, but do so in a respectful manner, right?

I don’t think anyone here is trying to FORCE another person to believe as he or she does, I believe that many are honestly seeking answers to questions, trying to better understand something they do not understand.

So, again I ask, why do you believe there is so much disrespect here?

If I came to your church, place of worship, mission, circle, gathering… and I honestly wanted to find out more of your religion or wanted to share some of mine… would you be disrespectful or would you be loving and try to share with me?

I personally think it is fine to disagree, but not to be disrespectful and hateful in the process.

Ezekial 18:25
25 "Yet you say, 'The way of the Lord is not just.' Hear, O house of Israel: Is my way unjust? Is it not your ways that are unjust?

The ways of the Lord ARE Just! Only He can Be Just! He is God!
Hosea 14:9
Who is wise? He will realize these things. Who is discerning? He will understand them. The ways of the LORD are right; the righteous walk in them, but the rebellious stumble in them.
