-Is it right to pick and choose, not only which verses to preach on...but, pick and choose only part of a verse?

-I do not believe divorced people are going to hell..anymore than homosexuals...as I do not believe in a literal interpretation of scripture....but, want to know from the fundamentalists...why exactly do you pick and choose which sins are worse?

It is absolutely a double standard. If preachers where to condemn those who are divorced and remarried without cause with the same viciousness as they do gays, the pews would be empty. Jesus said we are to love our neighbors, not condemn them. We are to spread the good news of the gospel which tells us that God's grace is sufficient for all. It is up to the Holy Spirit to convict us of our sins and change us into the character of Christ.

You are confused.
If the context of the sermon was homosexuality-then it is okay to lift out just that part that speaks to homosexuals. The sermon or the point would be topical. But if the sermon was expository and this passage was the central theme then all of it would be used.
When a sermon was on tithing, you do not use verses about drinking wine.

No one goes to hell for being divorced, or homosexual. One only goes to hell for rejecting God. All homosexuals reject God, even those who claim to be priest or ministers. God never condemns anyone because some preachers don't know how to properly construct a sermon, or deliver it. God condemns people for rejecting Him-period.

the reason you hear more about homosexuality is because there are more questions on here about homosexuality. Not many ask about divorce. No it is not right to pick and choose- however- when the question is about homosexuality you would not quote a passage that had to do with stealing would you? ALL SIN IS WRONG- and unrepentant sinners, no matter if divorced, gays, adulterers liars or murderers will not get into heaven. IF anyone on this forum wants to hear about something other than homosexuality ask us- I can not believe the questions on homosexuality today. - "you think we pick and choose" what do those who do not believe in Jesus do- they only quote passages about the love of God,not His justice and judgment.

No...repentance is the answer.If either repents and sins no more...they are saved.A remarried person can't turn back the hands of time.A divorced person that knows Scripture is doomed if they remarry.A sodomite that repents is saved.A sodomite that says he or she is a "christian" and does not repent is doomed.You need to read the entire Bible to understand doctrine and dogma.Pulling out a few verses with the intent to find error is not seeking out the truth.I agree that the divorce issue is a tough one.Sadly,too many "preachers" teach that it is okay for a Christian to divorce and remarry.Wrong!It is something to avoid at all costs.

I've been what one would consider a fundamentalist Christian for a long time and I can honestly say I've heard more sermons about heterosexual immoralty than I have about homosexuality. The exception would be in the area of televangelism. Many TV preachers are more interested in lining their pockets rather than scriptural truth so they prach to what they think their holier than thou demographics want to hear. That is " I'm O.k. your O.K. but those dirty homos are going to hell. Now send me some money if you want to keep my ministry on the air." Disgusting!

Love the sinner, hate the sin may be a cliche but if applied properly it can lead more people to Christ than any doctrine of fear. It can also help them establish a real relationship with Jesus and it gives us all a chance to examine ourselves in relation to God's will.

The Bible also condemns wearing clothes of more than fabric, or cutting your hair/shaving, cursing your parents (punishable by death) and the Bible is also pretty clear that you're supposed to KILL anyone not of your religion (Deuteronomy 17:2-7)
Women are not allowed to speak in church (1 Corinthians 14:34-35) and if you are blind or mute, you're not allowed at the altar of God. (Leviticus 21:17-18)
So you think, maybe, perhaps some of the laws of the Bible are a bit outdated?

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 says this: Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. None of these things shall be allowed into heaven. The Bible doesn't speak against only homosexuals and adulterers, but also against those who engage in pre-marital sex, those who worship idols, (which can be any and everything, not just statues), etc. Those of us who are Christians used to be like this, but we have repented of our sins, and strive to live a sinless life. This doesn't mean that we are perfect in any way, we just keep trying to live as Christ lived. There is only one reason to get a divorce, and that is for adultery. If it can be proven that one spouse committed adultery, the other spouse can remarry, and not commit a sin. The adulterous spouse, if he/she marries again, is committing adultery, and therefore is bound for hell. Why fundamentalists don't rail against divorce as much as homosexuality, you would have to ask them, because I don't know.

I know churches that preach about divorce, fornication, adultery, homosexuality, and everything else that is all a SIN in God's eyes.
Without repentence, one who has lived in all of these will not inherit the kingdom.
That is that.
Remember without repentence-- that is what separates you from God, because you are still in your sin.

It is funny how a lot of the people who preach about morals and importance of marriage are divorced: (See Newt Gingrich) and others that preach against homosexuality are gay: (Reference: Ted Haggard)

It's pretty simple, really. The texts in the Bible that appear to refer to oneself don't count; but those that appear to refer to others are the incontrovertable Word of God!
