That's right. Good for you.

People say, "I'm OK, I try to be a good person." But we can't do it -- we will mess up inevitably. A person can't be "good" for 24 hours in his/her own strength and ability. Watch -- invariably you will have a moment of anger with someone on the highway, or do something that you yourself know is wrong but do it anyway. Not just actions alone, but thoughts and words apply too.

"All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God... None is righteous, no not one." Romans (Paul's letter to the church in Rome), chapter 3.

And, by the way, Jesus says that, not because He himself isn't God (He was and is), but because the person He's addressing doesn't know that yet -- they just think he's a wandering rabbi, and he's teaching them not to think of anyone as "good" except God alone.

This is a beauty. Jesus had been addressed as "Good Master (or, Teacher), what good thing must I do to get eternal life?" (Matthew 19:16-30) Jesus replied with a question: "Why do you ask me about what is good? There is none good but one, that is, God. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments."

Now, the man who first asked was a rich man and was thinking in terms of righteousness by works. Jesus had to correc this misunderstanding first before answering the question more fully. He pointed out that doing good was not meritorious in itself. (There are no bonus points for doing what we are supposed to do!) The supreme example of goodness is God himself. No human can begin to compare with him, when it comes to being 'good'. Only God deserves the title, "Good". All goodness derives from God, even the keeping of the commandments, which Jesus went on to exhort. Keeping them is never a way of establishing one's supposed merit, but is to be an expression of true faith. The Bible always teaches that salvation is a gift of God's grace, received through faith (Ephesians 2:8).

Well, there are two ways of looking at this text. Anti-Trinitarians insist this proves that Jesus never claimed to be God (because they think Jesus is an entirely separate being from God, and created by God). Trinintarians point out that Jesus was getting the man to realise the implication of calling him "Good" - he was actually calling Jesus God, without realising it. So one lesson is to be very careful who we call "Good"! The second is to consider the goodness of God in Christ. The third is to realise we are to keep the commandments of God. "When the disciples hesard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, 'Who then can be saved?' Jesus then related his glorious position as Judge on the Day of Judgment and the rewards he would give to those who followed him. Well, is not GOD the Judge of all the Earth? But Jesus is the Judge of all the Earth on Judgment Day?! And Jesus concluded by saying, "Many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first." Ponder that in order to answer your question!

Depends on the context when using the word. All mankind are sinners and naturally inclined to rebel and sin.In part,we can be good and decent. In total...only God is perfect and good.

Why does that even matter, especially since not everyone subscribes to the religion of Christianity?
