I've been given a new course called "Our Global World" in the middle school I teach at. I've decided to make the first semester into a religious studies course and would like to incorporate videos into the course at appropriate intervals with an eye towards comparison and analysis.

Aside from "The 10 Commandments" and "Kingdom of Heaven" what are some other videos that are appropriate for 7th/8th graders that deal with the major religions of the world? Specifically I'm looking for something both entertaining and informative about Islam, Confucianism, Buddhism, Hinduism, and any others that are appropriate.

"The Prince of Egypt." It's great because it is based on the Old Testament, so it is common for Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. A LOT of work went into that movie, and it shows! In fact, they had ministers, theologians, etc., from all three work on the script, as well as historians. It's great! Joseph, King of Dreams is also a good one, but not as well produced.

I took a religious studies class in high school and pretty much all we did was watch movies. Basically all movies can be related to some kind of religion. Movies with a LOT of religious stuff in them are the Matrix and the Star Wars movies, but I don't know if those would work in middle school. This site http://planetwisdom.com/movies/ discusses TONS of movies from a Christian standpoint. Then of course there's always Inheret the Wind and other obvious ones.

Black robe

minus one sex scene that's easy to pass up (a french man making love to a native woman), there are some graphic scenes of native attacks, violence too, again these can be easily passed up.

Brother Sun Sister Moon

Both of these illustrate the sacrificial love aspect of Christianity.

That is my faith, and I can't help you with any of the others.
