The case of "blasphemy against the Spirit" in the New Testament is mentioned in Mark 3:22-30 and in Matthew 12:22-32. The term blasphemy may be generally defined as "defiant irreverence." We would apply the term to such sins as cursing God, or willfully degrading things relating to God. It is also attributing some evil to God, or denying Him some good that we should attribute to Him. This case of blasphemy, however, is a specific one, called "THE blasphemy against the Holy Spirit" in Matthew 12:31. In Matthew 12:31-32, the Pharisees, having witnessed irrefutable proof that Jesus was working miracles in the power of the Holy Spirit, claimed instead that the Lord was possessed by the demon "Beelzebub" (Matthew 12:24). Now notice that in Mark 3:30 Jesus is very specific about what exactly they did to commit "the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit."
This blasphemy has to do with someone accusing Jesus Christ of being demon-possessed instead of Spirit-filled. There are other ways to blaspheme the Holy Spirit, but this was "THE" unpardonable blasphemy. As a result, the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit cannot be duplicated today. Jesus Christ is not on earth. but seated at the right Hand of God. No one can witness Jesus Christ performing a miracle and then attribute that power to Satan instead of the Spirit. Although there is no blasphemy of the Spirit today, we should always keep in mind there is an unpardonable state of existence--the state of continued unbelief. There is no pardon for a person who dies in unbelief. Continual rejection of the Holy Spirit’s promptings to trust{Receive) Jesus Christ is the unpardonable blasphemy.

The blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is explained in Mark 3:28-30.
28. "Truly I tell you, people will be forgiven their sins and whatever blasphemies they utter.
29. But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit can never have forgiveness, but is guilty of eternal sin."
30. For they had been saying, "He has an unclean spirit."
Verse 30 clearly states what that is. The Pharisees were saying that what the Holy Spirit was doing was of Satan, and not of God.

properly right here is what Jesus pronounced approximately it. Mar 3:28 Verily I say unto you, All sins would be forgiven unto the sons of guys, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: Mar 3:29 yet he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath in no way forgiveness, yet is liable to eternal damnation: Mar 3:30 because of the fact they pronounced, He hath an unclean spirit. as a consequence it variety of feels that saying that Jesus is of devil will qualify. or perhaps purely the reality they pronounced his spirit (The Holy Spirit) replaced into unclean. I certainly have additionally heard that in case you reject Jesus long sufficient the Holy Spirit will pass away and you're with out any desire of ever making the alternative lower back. i think I certainly have considered this in some older human beings in my kinfolk. They actually can no longer see GOD anymore. whether Jesus replaced into sitting at their kitchen table eating Captain Crunch cereal.

A lost person does not have to blaspheme the Holy Ghost to be lost for he is condemned already. To understand who can blaspheme against the Holy Ghost, we must first know whom the Lord Jesus Christ was talking to when he made the statement, “but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.” (Matthew 12:31)
1. He was talking to the Pharisees of the Nation of Israel. (Matthew 12:24)
2. The body of Christ was a mystery while Jesus was on earth. (Romans 16:25)
Under the law, “in the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.”(II Corinthians 13:1) There are three murders in Israel’s history that mark her rejection of their Christ.
1. The Father sent his prophets and the Nation of Israel killed them. John the Baptist was one of these prophets. He came preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins (Mark 1:3-4) and preparing the way of the Lord. The Nation of Israel allowed him to be slain. This was the first witness.
2. Jesus came preaching, repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand (Matthew 4:17) and they crucified him. They rejected God the Son this is the second witness. On the cross, Jesus prayed for the Nation of Israel, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do.”(Luke 23:34) This prayer made it possible for the kingdom to be offer the third time to the Nation of Israel. This is recorded in the first seven chapters of the book of Acts.
3. The third witness is the unpardonable sin; they rejected the Holy Ghost and killed Stephen (Acts 7:54-60). The death of Stephen marks the close of God’s offer of the kingdom to the Nation of Israel. The apostle Paul is called in Acts Chapter 9 and God gives him the gospel of the grace of God. He goes to the Jew first but they blaspheme the Holy Ghost (Acts 18:6) and then he turns to the gentiles. The Nation of Israel is blinded “until the fullness of the Gentiles be come in.” (Romans 11:25) Today God is dealing with everyone alike and there is neither Jew nor Gentile (Gal 3:28; Eph 2:12). After the rapture of the body of Christ (the church), the next thing to happen to the Nation of Israel is the wrath of God will fall and God will deal with the Nation of Israel again (Daniel 9:24-26).

My understanding of the Church's teaching is that the only "unforgivable sin" is despair of the Holy Spirit's power to grant you salvation.
Basically, so long as you deny the power of God to forgive you, He won't.

from the kjv - matthew 12:
31] Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.
[32] And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
[33] Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit.

Rejecting the Holy spirit is when you deny the fact the God sent his only son to die for us, everyone is born with Christ in them its whether we choose to invite him in to our hearts. Atheists are a good example of blasphemy. Using science as a way to answer the question where we came from. God created us in his own image. He won't come uninvited in your heart, he's a gentleman he wants us to choose him thats why he gave us free will, or else he would've made us all like robots. Invite him in and I tell you it will be the best decision you ever made. He is AWESOME!!!

The way I was taught and from my understanding of the bible, it's the only unforgivable sin because it's pretty much a fail-safe to keep christians in line. The theory is as long as you don't deny that the Jewish deity and it's 'son' are the true deity and son, you can be forgiven of anything.... if you say that this religion is false, then it's right off to hell with you. Basically, they don't want anyone to think outside of their religous boundaries or discourage others from believing them. Once you've bought into christianity, you're scared for dear life of the consequences of disobediance, and this gives you a fail-safe to prevent you from leaving if you break any of the commandments or laws, but still believe their god is the right one. The other function is to scare you out of looking for truth and discovering that the religion is a sham. If you do find out something they don't want you to, you're too scared to do anything about it. So you deny it and call others blasphemers for believing it. The last function is to dehumanize those who don't believe. Since they don't believe and are therefore unforgivable, it's easier to do horrific things to them in the name of god. God doesn't forgive those idol worshipping, blaspheming non-believers (who are of satan) and their place is in hell, so it's okay to kill them, subjugate them, take them as slaves, torture them, what ever the powers that be decide should be done for the gain of the kingdom of god. There it is in a nutshell. Pardon the pun, but these people really are nuts.
