Explain each of these for me please!

1. "Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

2. Blessed are they who mourn,
for they shall be comforted.

3. Blessed are the meek,
for they shall inherit the earth.

4. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be satisfied.

5. Blessed are the merciful,
for they shall obtain mercy.

6. Blessed are the pure of heart,
for they shall see God.

7. Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called children of God.

8. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

with all the third world suffering on earth, with hundreds of millions of people enduring horrible poverty and violence and suppresion, why do so many christians waste time on the easy stuff, like trying to polically ensure that gay people can't "officially" get married. Or complaining about how department stores display signs that say "happy holidays" instead of "merry christmas." or gather up in protest groups over having the 10 commandments replaced back on court room walls?

the most many christians do to make this world a better place is pat themselves on the back for doing the easy stuff and going to church every week for a spiritual "pick-me-up" and then tell themself that they don't have to worry about the state of suffering on the international level because "god is coming any day now to deal with that stuff."

what if he isn't coming back for another thousand years? shouldn't we focus on the horrible state of suffering on earth and not just about american interests?

I grew up a christian and a pastor's daughter. I have realized that I have never been exposed to anything else than what I was taught. Now I am wondering if there is something that I have missed, or if I am in the right place. I am so scared to try something new since I know that would really upset my family but I am an adult, and feel I have the right to pursue my own spirituality but do not know how to look to see what is out there. Any suggestions?

Many people who have a faith say that all religions are basically the same. They all preach pretty much the same things, and most of them promise a better life to come. So they ask, what's the difference between them. Most of the different gods are just different names for the same god.

Let me tell you the main difference between most religins. Go to Buddah's grave, and his bones are still there. Go to Mohammed's grave, and his bones are still there. In fact, go to the grave of any relious leader, and his bones are still in the grave.

Jesus has the only grave in the world where people come every year by the tens of thousands to see an empty tomb. The difference between Christianity and other religions, my God is alive.

Any comments from any other religion. Since Atheism is a religion without a god, they don't even have a grave, so why bother answering?

My mom and dad raised me Jewish (even though they are a christian and Atheist)

They Had my Foreskin Removed when i was a baby!!!!!

And Now someone Tells me I cant be Jewish Becase it is an Ethnic Thing!! (BTW that was my Aunt, you know the one that is Married to a Pentacostal Preacher)
How Dare She insult me! I have jumped from religion to religion over the past 3 years and now she tells me that i cant practice My ORIGINAL religion because of my Ethnicity?????
And here i thought that CHRISTIANS (Believe they) worship the same god as Jews?!?!?!?!?!?

do you think that you can only practice the Jewish faith if you are a jew (in ethnicity)?
Because i know that the sons of Abraham are the chosen people of God but we aer all brothers in this world, we all share a Common ancestor (Adam/Noah)

This is a serious question.... That being said I was just wondering if you dont believe in a Intelligent Creator
How do you explain the beginning of the universe?
Im not talking about the big bang theory I know about that. Im talking about even before that... There has to be a beginning. You cannot say the world has been here forever because you cant get to the present (2007) if you are starting at negative infinity... Its mathematically impossible... Thanks

Some believe in the trinity, others don't. Some believe in Hell, some don't. Some believe Jesus arose in a physical resurrection some don't. Some believe the old testament should still be practiced, some don't. There are so many different churches and sects with drastic differences. Why would I believe your views when you can't even agree amongst each others?

Please no 72 virgins-related jokes. This joke is outdated.

Jerry Falwell died today. Many consider him to be the most evil man to have lived since Pope Pius XII. He created televangelism in 1969, the most perfect money laundering scheme ever devised by mankind.

It's a drug. You drink it. If it was liquid cocaine you might think twice. Why? Who cares about "every now & then' or 'rarely'? Nearly all of us have lost loved ones to drunk drivers. My mate's 16 year-old, president of his high school class, spent 9 months in children's hospital after he was hit and now, at 19, has no short-term memory and must repeat his senior year again. He will never be able to drive or do things for himself safely again. He gets lost easily, just walking from the water to his family.

Really, WHY? All other drugs that have the effects of alchol are illegal. Pot isn't as dangerous as alcohol but it's illegal. People drink, they drive, they maim and kill people; they go into rages and hurt those around them. If people were able to not drink in excess it would be a different story.

What kind of God would put such a heinous substance on the Earth?

Don't you feel priviledged, compared to a small ant who gets crushed under shoes? Does that make you believe you are really made in the image of God?

My husband would like to name our baby boy Shiraz. I am not against it as I know that there is also a city of Iran by that name. However, my main concern is that I have been informed from some people that Prophet Muhammed didn't like this name. Does any one has any religious background for this name. Please let me know ASAP. thanks

have a serious problem reading for comprehension on here, especially here in R&S? Are they skimmng the question and latching on to one irrelevant thing, and then responding like that's the whole of the question, or are they just lacking in the ability to fully understand what they are reading?

This just happened in the last question I asked, and now it happened to a girl who asked about a dream she had - and who is about to be confirmed in her church, and yet some guy told her she has strayed from god and needs to learn about god. Hello? Confirmation is a commitment to god - certainly not one someone who was straying would make.

Am I the only one baffled on here by this?

Ok, here goes.....

My theory is that when God created Adam and Eve he did without a physical vessel, much like angels.

Meanwhile back on earth, primates were slowly evolving into what we call humans today.

My theory is, when these evolved primates started to develop common sense and free will was the exact time when God condemned Adam to earth.

So, Adam and Eve merged with these physical vessel to become humans. Adam is like the soul, he is what differentiates us from animals.

Well it's sorta messy but you get what i'm trying to say right? I may be wrong on so many levels but thats why it's called a theory.

So how do you find my theory?

Someone you know very well is killed. Their body is immediately cryogenically frozen. 75 years from now, this person's brain is revived, and attached to a sophisticated computer interface that allows it to have sensory input and output... speech, sight, hearing, smell, etc.

You are shocked to discover that this IS your friend. The brain knows you, it recognizes you, it has all your friends memories down to the smallest detail, and it understands exactly what has happened to it. It speaks to you, and you to it. There is no denying that this IS your friend, brought back to life - albeit with the aid of technology.

Your friend then tells you that during the 75 years that passed, there was nothing. No light, no tunnel, no booming voice. No cognition, no sense of the passage of time, no experiences whatsoever. Just a split second between the end of life, and the start of life.

Think about it, because it's not that far out of the realm of possibility. Maybe not now, but someday.

are we more mocking his so called followers and their definitely un-Christlike behavior?

God's the unknown here, but folks, you make it quite clear with your comments that some of you clearly just mouth your religion and never choose to actually live by the precepts of your religion, let alone know what those precepts are.

You call Atheists and pagans and Agnostics stubborn, losers, even condemn us to hell. Namecalling, petty back biting, not knowing your scripture and yelling at those of us who do - are these the actions Jesus wanted you to take? Are you even aware of what actions Jesus wanted man to take?

Are you even aware that the bible has two parts that are inseparable, regardless of what some of you like to insist?

Questions that have been bugging me about here for a long time.

BTW? I do know some Christians who DO live by the precepts and guides Jesus set forth for man - and they are lovely decent people I'm proud to know. Some on here could learn from them.
