Absolutely. When the survival of the tribe depended on the rains, it would have seemed sensible to propitiate any gods that might be involved, as a wrong answer was literally a matter of life and death. For more on this, see:

I agree. I believe religion is a God of The Gaps so to speak. This is when one invokes the use of the supernatural to explain that which has no mundane explanation. For example people of the Hellenistic era believed that a God by the name of Helios pulled the sun across the sky with his chariot and this created night and day. In Norse mythology thunder and lightning are the result of Thor wielding his giant hammer. Centuries later though we know now that day and night happen because the Earth rotates on it's own axis as it orbits the sun. We also know that thunder and lightning are the result warm and cold air-fronts meeting each other. Thus the gap closed and there was no more need for Helios and Thor.

Why make up something and call it a god if you knew it wasn't true? That would be like a little kid having an imaginary friend. Sooner or later that child would grow enough to realize the friend was imaginary. Adults don't need to make up things to explain things. At least they shouldn't. God was God long before humans were on the earth and He will continue to be God long after!

Religion is because religion in its fundamental definition will never see a compliment with Science, which does explain things. However, spirituality compliments science very well, and we are in fact moving towards this new paradigm in the future, with the realization that we are all One Brotherhood of Man, children of the One True God of All in All, regardless of what your religion or path to God is.

Well, since we are still without the knowledge to explain a great many things I believe we should hang on to that religion thing for a little while longer. Perhaps at least until the rapture occurs. Then you can do what you like.

No, human beings are incurably religious. Which is part of the reason Richard Dawkins, the dumbest genius ever, is always so bloomin' mad. We are actually hardwired to believe in God, and if there is no God this would serve no evolutionary purpose. Religion will not ever die, there will always be God's truth, and every kind of Satanic falsehood under whatever current guise makes it palatable to us dim witted humans.

Kinda....I think there is some sort of intelligent design...but I don't think any religion has their finger on the truth...not even close. Most of the large ones now I think are more rooted in myth and folklore than anything else.

Man has not really changed much down history; hence religion will always have a role.
