My hubby and I are both Christians, but not the most knowledgeable in the Bible (yet). Here's the beef. I think as Christians we should keep God's commandments, turn away from sin, avoid temptation, etc. My husband believes that Jesus saved us so we "can" be sinful as long as we still believe.

Who is right?

You Christians blow me away by your lack of knowledge of the bible. I don't know if the fault is with you our your church. Do you not remember Moses who knew God, Enoch from Genesis walked with God, You ever hear of that book by the way? Isaiah reasoned with God. Come on have you become such sheep to the ways of man that you have lost your capacity to think clearly and critically? This is not a put down but a call to all of you to just wake up. Make your peace with God The Father---God The Creator. Even Jesus himself prayed by saying Our Father he didn't say our Jesus.

I'm a catholic college student, and I've got a question. 95% of people have sex before they get married. Obviously, some of these people are going to get pregnant. Since some people don't want these kids, doesn't it make sense to accept the use of birth control? Furthermore, since God made sex feel good, why does the Catholic Church believe that the sole purpose of sex is procreation? If it was, it wouldn't feel so good, right?

I think the Church has it all wrong. I think birth control should be permitted and encouraged. In this day and age, people are gonna have sex. The Church needs to respect that fact and adapt its laws to better benefit humanity.

A great scholar of the 20th century, Syed Abul-Ala Maududi, quotes Ahadith (sayings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him)) on the rights of enemies at war in his book, "Human Rights in Islam."

Qoute:
3. The Prisoner of War Should not be Slain
"No prisoner should be put to the sword"-a very clear and unequivocal instruction given by the Prophet (S).

4. No one Should be Tied to be Killed
"The Prophet has prohibited the killing of anyone who is tied or is in captivity."
(End quote)

If Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) has prohibited the killing of a prisor of war, then taking an innocent person hostage and killing him is even a bigger sin.

Those people who take hostages and torture or kill them, do so against the teachings of Islam. This injunction holds regardless of how evil the enemy is. In the Battle of Uhad, many Muslims' bodies were mutilated, including the body of Prophet's uncle. Prophet never took revenge.

Genesis 24:1-4 (NIV):
Abraham was now old and well advanced in years, and the LORD had blessed him in every way. He said to the chief servant in his household, the one in charge of all that he had, 'Put your hand under my thigh. I want you to swear by the LORD, the God of heaven and the God of earth, that you will not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I am living, but will go to my country and my own relatives and get a wife for my son Isaac.'

Often, whenever someone commits a horrible deed, or does something that is defined as "sin" within your faith, Christians will dismiss that individual with, "Well, he/she isn't a *real* Christian". There are even entire organizations (Westboro Baptist, etc.) that are equally dismissed by the majority of your faith.

My question is : Percentage wise, how many people claiming to be a Christian do you believe give the rest of you a bad rap?

A deputation from the Christians of Najran (Yemen) came to see Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) in Madina. They came into the Prophet's Mosque (Masjid Nabawi) as he prayed the afternoon prayer. The time of prayers of Christians having come, they stood and prayed in the Prophet's Mosque, and the Prophet said that they were to be left to do so. (see The Life of Muhammad by A. Guillaume).

During the life of Prophet Muhammad, the Jews in Madina had a synagogue and an educational institute, Bait-Al-Midras. The Prophet preserved the institute and gave protection to the Jews.

The Prophet respected the autonomy of the Christian churches. The nomination and the appointment of bishops and priests was left to the Christian community itself.

Prophet Muhammad promoted cooperation between Muslims and Christians in the political arena as well. He selected a non-Muslim, 'Amr-ibn Umaiyah-ad-Damri, as an ambassador to Negus, the King of Ethiopia.

What do you think?

…if God had not driven some people back by means of others, monasteries, churches, synagogues and mosques, where God's name is mentioned much, would have been pulled down and destroyed. God will certainly help those who help Him - God is All-Strong, Almighty. (Surat al-Hajj: 40 )

This verse shows all Muslims the importance of respecting and protecting the sanctuaries of Christians and Jews.

Indeed, in the Koran God commands Muslims not to harbor any enmity towards any people. In many verses, friendship is recommended, even with idolaters. God even refers to the idolaters at war with Muslims in this way: "If any of the idolaters ask you for protection, give them protection until they have heard the words of God. Then convey them to a place where they are safe." (Surat at-Tawba: 6)

Jews and Christians, however, are much closer to Muslims than idolaters. Each of these religions has its book, that is, they are subject to a revelation sent down by God.

A good action and a bad action are not the same. Repel the bad with something better and, if there is enmity between you and someone else, he will be like a bosom friend. (Surat al-Fussilat: 34)

So remind, you need only to remind. You cannot compel them to believe. (Surat al-Ghashiyah: 22)

I was raised as a Catholic, well sort of, my parents did it out of a feeling of obligation, but they didn´t really believe in God, so they didn´t convince me...the thing is, I quite envy religious people, because they seem happier (when smt bad happens the take comfort believing it was God´s will and they have got a community to fall back on and many friends) however I don´t think I´d be able to become religious, so tell me the bad things...no sex before marriage doens´t count, because I am married anyway...

I worship the one God the creator in my own way and don't need a church or religious group to tell me how to do it. Is it just a case of the sheep mentality which permeates our culture.

One sees this all the time a question by an atheist is answered with Biblical quotes. Or when someone asks a question about some mystical belief say magic than we also see a lot of Biblical quotes to show how wrong it is. I don't understand this if a person does not believe in the Bible or accept it as authoritative what is the use of using passages from the Bible.

"I don't believe in the Bible."

"Oh but says right here in the Bible that you should believe it!?"

A question was asked about "God Addiction Counseling" yesterday, and a christian(~~LynA~~) replies:

"Get a life. What our children CHOOSE to believe is their business, just like its your business what you believe"

Hmmm... does anyone else see many things wrong with that statement?
So let me guess, this Christian mother taught her kids about every religion then let her child choose all on it's own?
I doubt it. Infact I'd bet all my money that the kid had Christianity rammed down it's throat and taught that it would go to hell if it believed anything else.
Doesn't really seem like a fair "choice" does it?
