JIHAD in the Old Testament commanded by GOD for the believers ?

When thou comest nigh unto a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace unto it.
And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then it shall be, [that] all the people [that is] found therein shall be tributaries unto thee, and they shall serve thee.
And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war against thee, then thou shalt besiege it:
And when the LORD thy God hath delivered it into thine hands, thou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword: But the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, [even] all the spoil thereof, shalt thou take unto thyself; and thou shalt eat the spoil of thine enemies, which the LORD thy God hath given thee. Thus shalt thou do unto all the cities [which are] very far off from thee, which [are] not of the cities of these nations. -- Deu 20:10-15

[64] Chavel 1967, v.I, 200f. The Bible references are Deuteronomy 20.

There are two types of war applicable to the 21st Century believers :

1. milhemet hova (obligatory war)
2. milhemet reshut (optional war)

This obligation is commented by Rabbi Chavel:

"This Commandment ... will be better understood in the light of the following passage from the 'Mishneh Torah': '

We are not to engage in war with anyone whatever unless we [first] proclaim peace to him; [this is applicable to both] an optional and an obligatory war; for it is said, When thou drawest nigh a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace unto it (Deut XX, 10).

If [the inhabitants] accept the offer of peace... we are not to slay a soul among them, and they merely become tributary, for it is said, [All the people ... therein] shall become tributary unto thee, and shall serve thee'." (Ibid.)

****** OT COMMAND BY THE LORD OF ABRAHAM : *****

Step 1 --- Give them the option of peace (to become believers)
Step 2 ---- If they want to keep their religion, they must pay the Tribute (Head Tax)
Step 3 ---- If they deny the above two options then kill them all or enslave them.

In other words, if the city's inhabitants object to being subdued/enslaved, they have to be slain nevertheless. Also sparing their life directly contradicts Negative Commandment 49 (see note [65]).

"We must not make a covenant with idolaters, to agree on keeping peace with them or accept them practising idolatry, because it says (Deut 7:2) Thou shalt not make a covenant with them. Either they give up idolatry or they are killed. And it is forbidden to pity them, since it says (ibid.): Nor shalt thou shew mercy unto them.

The above references the command from the OLD TESTAMENT which according to Judaic law is applicable for all time and for all believers.

If Christians believe Jesus is God then he is the God of the Old Testament and therefore they cannot deny that GOD commanded this for the believers.

black people, it sometimes seems, should be allowed to say all the hateful things they want because they have been oppressed and picked on mercilessly for the last 25 years; should Sharpton be cut slack because of the victimization of the last several years; do you agree or disagree?

I read an answer here in R&S which said that goths and emos come from religious families. What does this mean? I'm probably wrong, but I imagined goths were people like "Abby" on the TV show NCIS. I have no idea what emos are. I've been out of circulation for decades. Please bring me up to date.......

Abraham was chosen to be a Great Prophet of the Creator of the Universe.

Abraham had two sons who were both to be blessed with a Holy Covenant .

The Holy Covenant are promises from The Lord of Abraham in return for taking on the responsibility to "Make Allah/God known to the World" and establishing the “laws of God” on the Earth.

Ishmael - first son - ISLAM
Issac - second son - JUDAISM & Christianity

JUDAISM is the covenant through Isaac.
ISLAM is the covenant through Ishmael.

Rabbi Saul(St. Paul) Created his own Covenant =

Genesis 17:9-10 ---Then God said to Abraham, "As for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you for the generations to come.
This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised.

Galatians 5:2 ---- Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all.

When the suspect says "'I'm doing it in the name of Allah"

they could just as easily have said, Christ. You know how dangerous those radical American Christians can be.

but I think the school system is failing for 2 reasons. First, we are teaching children only facts, relying on rote memorization of facts, instead of teaching them how to think abstractly and on topics that have no right or wrong answer (like religion, any coincidence between fact-feeding in schools and a polarized society like we have today? Right and wrong, black and white. Think about it...) Secondly, the schools feign responsibility for teaching personal matters to children and everyone says it's the parents job. Who here has kids and only one income (assuming mom and dad are together)? It's almost impossible today. Two incomes are almost obligatory and parents hardly have time to wash and feed their kids, let alone discuss religion with them (if they decide to).

We can continue to say it's someone else's responsibility to teach our kids this and that (sex ed, religion, morals in general) but in the meantime, NO ONE is teaching them these things (in too many cases).
