Jesus is the light of the world, and if we have Jesus in our hearts, we as God's children are the light of the world as we share the good news of the gift of his salvation.

YOU are the light of the world [Mat.5:14-16].
Those statements mean that Jesus had given you part of HIS Spirit in order that you become the (small) light of the world.
