We have to go through your so-called "errors" verse by verse so that I can explain it to you. For example there is no contradiction between John 10,30 and John 14,28 because in the latter, Jesus said the Father was greater than him because he had not yet ascended to heaven. There is also a difference between what Mark and Matthew says regarding the power of Jesus because they have different Christologies. Mark has a lower Christology than Matthew. Regarding Elijah's ascension into heaven, this is clearly a Midrashic story.

There are many accounts in the Bible, which employ a literary device used by Jewish Old and New Testament writers called Midrash. Midrash is the substantive of the Hebrew word darash which means to search, to investigate, to study and, also, to expound on the fruits of the research. The aim of Midrash is to draw from Scripture a lesson for the present.

Midrash could also be defined as a "reflection on Scripture in the light of the actual situation of God's people and of the developments of God's action on its history." It proposes to explain the meaning of Scripture in the light of the later historical experience of God's people. This kind of interpretation often opened the door to embellishments of the sacred accounts, anachronisms, and a freedom in handling and maneuvering the data of tradition that were at times a little too candid and certainly very imaginative.

There are certainly many errors in the Bible. The Catholic Church admits that and there is an explanation for it. One explanation is the fact that it was written by many persons who had different experiences of God. However, the Church also says that when it comes to matters regarding our salvation, the Bible is infallible.

May I suggest that when you read the Bible you consult a good commentary so that these contradictions can become clear to you.
Peace and blessings!

Read Philippians 2:5-11. It explains the "equal/not equal" issue. It states that Jesus was an equal with God, but laid it aside for a time when he became human. Then returned to that position of equality. During that time, he made no use of his divine power or knowledge, but used only the same tools available to any other human: prayer, fasting, faith, the scriptures, the infilling of the Holy Spirit, etc. Following his death and resurrection that power was returned to him (See Matthew 28:18-20) So during that period, the statements that he was not equal are correct. While John 10:30 refers to all the time before and after his incarnation.

See the answer above for the second issue also. During his incarnation, Jesus choose to limit himself to what he could do through prayer, fasting, faith, etc. When the faith was no there, neither was the power. If they people were unwilling to have miracles, he could not force them into the people.

Elijah went into heaven still alive. Jesus ascended into heaven in resurrection form. Not the same thing.

So, once again, no contradictions.

Thank you for your question. Please note first of all, that they are not errors but appear to be errors. We are human, just a creation, with limited knowledge. But creator, the LORD is not so, Many former inventions of mankind have totally proved wrong when another invention overtakes them, in many thesis. The errors arise, when we try to analyze a supernatural matter with our very limited knowledge, esteeming it a very little.

The word of GOD is written by the HOLY SPIRIT through the saints of GOD. (II Peter 1:21). If we have the mind of the Holy Spirit, then we can understand the scriptures in the way we should, otherwise everything will end only in confusion. Get the help of the Holy Spirit, He will teach you in all truth (I John 2.27). To know as to how to get HIS help, please contact me. My ID is dsilva_manuel@yahoo.com

Let me brief in a nutshell.
1. You understand Trinity first, to clear your first doubt. Consider yourself and your father is one in all matters, (not equal as you say) that does it mean that your father is not greater than you and you equal your father.

2. Jesus is all-powerful definitely, but he came into the world having the form of a man as you and me, to save us from the sin and bring to the eternal kingdom where He is. But when He was in this world, He did wonders, working with the faith of such people those who sought him. Your reference clearly says that because of the unfaith of others he could do no mighty works. If you could believe He will do marvelous work in you also.

3. Do you know there are more than one heaven. Please read II Corinthians 12:2, that will enlighten you. If you have a revelation or a knowledge about the Kingdom God that JESUS is preparing for you, then you can very well understand that every word of scripture will season you to reach that eternal city which can not be moved.

1- He's saying he's in union with God. I could say the same thing - maybe not to as complete a sense as JC could, though. He's not equal to God, he's God's son - the first 3 scriptures you point to he calls God his father. Just because I may think my dad's a better person than me doesn't mean I can't be "in union" with him - or in agreement and trying to do whatever he would do in that sitch.
2-Jesus has more power than anyone I know. What you point to in Mark 6:5 - he doesn't give his powers all willy-nilly. He said the people in his town had no faith in him and that's why he didn't do as much for them. It doesn't say he had no power, it says he didn't want to "perform tricks" for people who don't even believe in him.
3-Elijah is a fun one. Apparently he didn't go to "heaven" where the angels dwell - he went to "heaven" as in the earth's atmosphere. It seems that "God took him" to save his life - but transported him to another part of the earth. This is apparent because years later Elijah wrote a letter to King Jehoram - 2 Chronicles 21:12. So when JC went to heaven, he was at God's right hand and therefor in the spiritual realm - not just up in the clouds.

My only defense of this book, which is the No.1 best seller in the world and was divinely inspired, is that if you knew there are 1500 errors, then you must have taken the time to read it. How else would you think there are errors? If you took all that time to read it, did you understand any of it?
God is not the author of confusion..so therefore, you must be confused! The Bible does not contradict itself...You may lack understanding..or you seem to be taking verses out of the entire context.
Pray for understanding, and when you see scriptures which appear to be contradictory, cross reference them, get a Concordance and "dig" to uncover the truth on any particular subject.. A person can read the entire Bible and not really understand, unless you have ears to hear and eyes to see the truth..and a heart that wants to know what the truth actually is..
God bless you with reasoning and understanding..

The errors spring for the fact that many of the people in the bible said things that were wrong.

I personally accept only the things stated by God himself (if God is a 'him') and what God's son said as without question.

If any other personality in the bible tries to counterdict either of them..they are wrong. The bible is just recording what they said..not agreeing with them.

It is the religons that coined the term 'God breathed' making everything said in the bible 'true'.

I believe it is a test from God to see if you will read the history and understand that men are often wrong and error and sin but God and his son alone are the truth.

So did Mark, John, Mathew, Paul etc.. make errors? You bet they did, but it is up to you to read GOD'S word and see the errors so you don't make them yourself !

I've carefully studied 398 individual instances of apparent contradictions in the Bible, and I've found really good explanations for each. The ones you've posted aren't even the hard ones.

These verses are where you need to start:

1Cor. 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Heb. 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

I suspect 1500 is a low estimate.

The Bible is completely riddled from beginning to end with errors, contradictions, inconsistencies, illogical statements, anachronisms, and absurdities. It is not a source of accurate information about science and nature, geography or history.

It also is one of the most influential works of fiction ever written, has some very poetic areas, and has influenced art and literature for centuries. As atheists, we can't just dismiss the Bible, as there are people who believe every word of it, who have access to nuclear weapons.

One needs to possess a certain amount of open minded-ness as well as the ability to think critically to fully comprehend Christianity. You are stuck in a rut (as most Atheists are) don't worry, I've been there, done that. Enlightenment will come to everyone, eventually.
