Or anyone interested in the church - did you watch/listen?
If so, what did you think?

Elder Holland's talk was my personal fave...also Elder Bednar's talk. They were all wonderful though...

I have two papers due in about 4 weeks in my class Great World Religions: Christianity. The subject for one is "How would you describe Christianity to someone who knows nothing about it?"

Now, I don't want you to do my homework for me...I'm just a little lost getting started. I need a direction to take off from. That's also why I am asking for only one or two sentences on the subject...please no big long paragraphs, just a line or two. Something that will give me a good starting point.

...in approximately 10,000 differing religions.

Christians - what is the chance/probability that you have the right God/Religion? What is the probability that all others have the wrong God/Religion? And, why??

In most (but not all) Christian denominations, it is common practice to baptize babies. What is the purpose of this?

I ask because I recently got into an argument with a family member who was shocked that I didn't want to have my future children baptized. This person asked me, "What if the baby dies before it is baptized?" To which, my response was, "Well, you tell me, what if? Is God going to send my child to hell because I didn't have some tired old pastor throw some H2O on his forehead?" Needless to say, we're not getting along well at the moment.

I was baptized as a young adult, as my parents thought it should be my decision, and I would like to extend the same courtesy to my children. Although, you can probably guess that I never really had my heart behind it. In fact, I now think it laughable that I ever even considered religion, for exactly this sort of reason.

After weekly Mass, a boy walks up to his father, who is watching football, and asks, "Dad, is God black or white?"

The dad, puzzled, replies back "Well, son, I guess God is both."

The little boy walks away, thinking about what he has just learned. Then, three or four minutes later, he returns.

"Dad, is God a man or a woman?"

The father, again confused at the question, replies "I've never really thought about it, but I suppose God is both"

The little boy walks away again, thinking about what he has just learned.

Three minutes later, the boy comes back and asks,

"Dad, is Michael Jackson God?"

(ba-dum-dum ching!)

why is it so difficult for christians and other theists to just say, "i don't know?" when confronted with questions on faith. i know from my own experiences as a one-time christian, that there is sort of a fear that is embedded into your thinking. anyone who denies this is lying to themselves. i believe the story i was told was the one on the wages of sin being death, and that one's only means of salvation is by accepting christ as your saviour. death and only means of salvation... can you honestly say those words are not used to scare people into believing? imagine telling a five year old this, who has no real concept of the world. you'd better believe he or she is gonna be scared into believing. and so it is taught from that early of a stage that you'd better know, or else... does anyone disagree with this?

Did the Christian God mean for the human race to have the Bible? I am a Christian, but no where have I found any implication that God wanted the Bible to exist for us. Did Jesus ever mention a Bible?

This question is for Jehovah Witnesses, not those who feel the question is not valid, or who will respond just to say they're wrong, are cults, and other things. I'm also neutral, and praying to understand if Jesus is God. This is a sincere post.

The last few weeks I've spoke to people from different christian denominations. I received an article from one of them which pointed out different beliefs Jehovah Witnesses have changed over the years. I asked the Witnesses about the things in that article, and they admitted to changing the "errors" because they've grown and now no better.

I respect and commend them for that if it was done for honest reasons, and not because it could not be denied. But I'm unclear why there are so many Jehovah Witnesses who argue without a doubt, that Jesus is not God because of their Bible Translation. A translation which was created around the same time other errors were corrected such as their former leader's belief in pyramidology and other things.

Isn't it a bit demeaning to discount the eons of toil and the majesty of everything the ancient Semitic peoples built to cram it into less than 6000 years and give all the credit to God? Recognizing the history of the Jews and what they built and their place in world history shows them so much more respect and appreciation than the truncated version of history in the Old Testament. Shouldn't we give them the credit they are due? And doesn't the denial of this by Christians slap their own ancestors in the face?

Is the following a good summary of your faith?

'I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.'

Does this summary help define Christianity for you? It does for me.

Mormons don't worship Satan, and their church isn't a work of the Devil. It is simply the work of man.

My question: What are some of its doctrines that you find to be the most unusual and why?

Also, for the sake of accuracy and respect, please only list doctrines that can be confirmed with documented sources
