As a Christian I believe science will never disprove God no matter what anyone claims to the contrary.
However I would think most scientists are simply hard at work trying to produce a better life on earth, developing cures for illnesses, making new technological discoveries etc, very few would be conducting research or experimenting with a view to disproving the existence of God.

They're not trying to but they are trying to understand the Universe. I'm a Christian and a bit of an armchair scientist - with a predelection towards theoretical physics - I think it is SO exciting.
Any true scientist never discounts any theory. However, when are we going to admit that we can't PROVE with observable evidence that God does exist.

Scientists do not have to proof God's existence they are busy with scientific research and inventions. Believers have to proof God's existence. More accurately people who claim somebody's existence they have to prove it. For example, if some one wants other people to believe that Angels, Jinn (Genie), Fire breathing Dragons exists, then he or she has to prove it based on evidence. It is also true scientists do not test or research things that don't have substantial proof. For example, I don't think scientists will research leprecons, Santa Claus with a flying sledge, Angels, tooth fairy, dragons etc. They have better things to do. This is a very interesting question though.

Why would scientists bother to do what theists have been doing for centuries?
The real question should be:
When will theists stop disproving their idiotic idols by telling the same tales over and over, instead of proving their idols true by providing some compelling evidence?

Is that what my scientists have been doing!?! God damn them, I wanted a new and improved brand of toothpaste or some sort of genocidal robot, not for them to pursue their own agendas about disproving God! Man am I pissed, heads are going to role at the lab tonight! Come on Igor, we've got work to do!

Scientists do not try to disprove anything. They do experaments to determine how things work. That's all. If their results offend you then stay ignorant of our best science. Science just explains things from the Big Bang onward. It doesn't say there's not a creator or anything, because they don't go into things they can't test.

God's been disproven logically. However, because it's an irrational concept, it will never be proven.
No scientist is wasting time trying to "disprove" a fictional character. How much money do you think they'd waste on showing that Harry Potter is fake?

Why can't people get it through their thick skulls that they are not trying to do any such thing?
EDIT: Saphire4, you're overstating the case.
If I believe something, there is no requirement to prove it simply because I believe it. It is when I insist that others believe also, or insist that others accept it as fact, that proof becomes neccessary.

Scientists aren't trying to "disprove God's existence." This is just pulpit-propaganda of the uninformed.

There are scientists that do believe in God and have some real good theory's that God does exist and even how and where God exists, please don't assume that all scientists are Atheists.
