Its just been on my mind since i've been reading soiciology books. I believe in God and that Jesus Christ is my savior but sometimes it just seems that religion was created to better shape the people who inhabit our society. Religion whichever it is makes people strong in character. To have answers to the unkown makes humans feels at ease sometimes. It seems a lot better to just beleive in something and I just get the feeling that some one long ago knew this about humans and thus gave birh to these religions.

I thought that the validity of the source was the main reason that books were chosen to be included in the Bible.

Nobody even knows who wrote Hebrews.

Is Hebrews only in the Bible because it didn't conflict with the church's idea of what the religion should be?

quoting scripture after scripture?????

I know when I see them, I skip them entirely other than to thumbs down them. If a scripture is what is asked for, then it is different, but to quote 17 scriptures when a simple yes or no will suffice? Why do that??

First of all I respect all you COCers and this is not in any way a negative thing. Ok?....ok. I am SB. Recently saved & baptized. I believe in Jesus the Son of God, God the Father & the Holy Spirit, he died on the cross so we can go to heaven, saved by his gift of grace, confessed my sins, welcomed Jesus in my life/heart, got baptized & strive to live a Christian life/to bring people to Christ. Have you ever noticed every thing I just did is the same requirements COC has in order to go to heaven but they don't word it or say it in that way. So could it not be, that were both right? We're both inevitably doing the same thing to get to the same place but just don't look at it the same way?
I'm asking this because my family is convinced I'm going straight to the pits of Hell! We don't fight or argue about it but they calmly/graciously let me know how they felt because it was there obligation to do so.

What's your thoughts?

Thanks!
The only way you can lose your salvation is to commit the Unpardonable Sin.

First of all let me qualify my question and say that this question as well is not intended to persecute. I just find it very curious and would like an intelligent response.

Christians in America are the majority. They have some of the wealthiest churches in the world. They own networks and have lots of power and influence politically. They enjoy freedom like no where else to practice their religion. They are not being hunted down, fed to lions etc. like in Roman times.

On the other hand, I am one of just 4 pagans in my ENTIRE town, which is mostly S. Baptist. My kids have to endure all kinds of condemnation constantly. We have even been threatened on several occasions. Yet I still try to live peacefully with my Christian neighbours.

Where is this great PERSECUTION? Is not agreeing with you persecution? Is not liking some of your actions persecution? Is not having everyone think you are cool persecution? Please explain and I mean that in the nicest possible way.

On the heels of my last question:

I mean, surely you can unteach them when they get home or convince them not to really listen. And it is important to know your enemies, right? Is the fact that public schools teach evolution really worth retarding your child's development and education with home-schooling or some private school that doesn't have to meet the same standards as public schools?

Don't you think it's important to at least expose your kids to evolution so they can make intelligent arguments against it, if that's what you're determined to have them do?

Not looking for crude answers, just opinions please.

My favourite was always Thomas. I like a guy who questions things before accepting them. Then he double checks.

Seriously, quit it. You're making the rest of us look bad.

And that's 'bad' as in 'never allowed to eat chocolate or drink beer again' bad.

A colleague is getting handfasted followed by a civil wedding in the summer. I'd like to get the couple something personal and appropriate for their handfasting ceremony which is the important bit. I'm not entirely sure what type of pagan he is, but I know he believes in magick. Any suggestions for a meaningful gift?

Do they fear what they don't understand or do they resent the fact that a christian wants to share the truth?

2007-03-29 09:00:50 · 28 answers · asked by Anonymous

Ok, that sounds a little harsh, but the reality is that more and more Christians are taking their kids out of public schools in an attempt to shield them from both diversity in culture and education curriculum that does not include Creation. Since they have been unsuccessful in getting Creation into public schools, it seems they are starting their own "schools" or opting for home schooling.

Does this frighten anyone else? I think that this is of great detriment to our children and future generations. Creation can be taught at home after school. Christian "values" can be taught at home after school. All the "evil" things kids may learn in school can be washed away at home after school, if necessary. But kids need to be exposed to many cultures and many ideas and develop social skills in order to function in this country. They will encounter these issues once they leave school, so how is sheltering them from them helping anyone?

How do you know (for the ones that believes in it) when He is talking to you?
How can you be sure?
Can you hear his voice?
