I don't know about Catholics BUT as far as JEWS go, God has blessed them, since he did say they are his chosen people. That's my opinion.

Why do you think only Jews and Catholics need to? I need to too!! You probably do too! Money is nice, but maybe you're coming from the point of "money is the root of all evil"? Personally I think it's because somewhere in the bible Jesus also said --
Deuteronomy 28:11 The LORD will grant you abundant prosperity—in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground—in the land he swore to your forefathers to give you.
So it looks like it kind of depends on where someone's personal views lie, and how they "interpret" the bible. I answered your question like this because you didn't say people, you asked about Catholics and Jews.

There is nothing wrong with having wealth. It's how you use what you have. The Catholic Church provides far more human services to the needy of the world than all other churches combined. Would you be happier if the Catholic Church only had as much wealth as the Unitarian Church (for example) and provided only as many human services as the Unitarian Church??

The Jews are merchants, traders and businessmen and it's normal for them acquire wealth.
The Catholics are plain industrious and lucky and if you are talking about their Church, first the early church knew how to loot and plunder, then they learn the art of international banking and lately they are lucky to be exempted from paying taxes even if their business is directly competing with non-religious capitalists. Have you seen how expensive are their school tuition fees?

i don't even know if this is a serious question, but it's not like jews and catholics are richer than the general population or anything. it's just that most of the population is jewish or catholic, thus the rich people in that society are likely to be one of those as well.

If they were truly reading the same Bible I've got - then they would know that Jesus said if you have two pairs of shoes then give one to your brother.

To build more things or to pay off people to keep secrets. In any case, not only the ones suggested by myself, money does help groups, religiously affiliated or not, to do more things for their causes.
