Is it just me or do they seem to be bathed in ignorance?

(side note) I was raised in a Christian home. I learned about many denominations of Christianity, and about Buddhism, Hinduism, and many more religions.

Christianity is not defined by the amount of Bible verses one knows. And we have NO obligation to learn about other religions.

Some Christians are content with their own faith, and don't need proof that GOD loves them. Others need or want to learn everything possible.

I personally know quite a bit about Christianity.

My question is, why do so many non-believers, know so much about a religion they claim to be a 'myth'?

All of us 'non-believers' have had the initiative to educate ourselves on many religious aspects in our search for our own internal truth. I, personally, have studied most of the world's major religions. If you have not learned about other religions, how can you say you follow the one 'true' religion? What would be the foundation of such a statement? It would be a fallacy.

Some how I got the "Top Contributor" for Religion and Spirituality. I didn't get it because I know everything ... rather that I don't know anything.

See, Y!A was a place where there are tons of questions I've asked my whole life. Recently, I found spiritual leaders to help me; A nun & Priest. They gave me books and offered me classes for free. This wasn't enough to quench my thirst for knowledge.

Anyways, I found questions like "Why did God punish Adam and Eve?" ... "Is Oral Sex a sin?" ... "Why is the Church obsessed with sex?"... so using the books I got (& a few web sites), I looked it up, typed it out and submitted it for an answer. This educated me. I didn't do it because I wanted to spread the word ... I did it because I was curious myself. It is God's will if anyone reads what I've looked up & typed out and embrace it for themselves.

Curiosity killed the cat and satisfaction brought it back.

Praise be to Allah.

Actually MOST of christians claim they know everything about christianity. Actually they don't, because if they do and they truly have minds, they won't stay on this religion for a second.

Even if you scroll through R & S, you will find that many muslims know the bible more than christians.

I even asked a lot of questions about the bible and I don't think I found persuasive answers.

I'll admit I fit that mold, yet even now I am striving to change that. I am reading the Bible and praying hard. I strive to learn from its readings and better myself, trying my utmost to become more like Jesus. I am a work in progress. As to the question about Christians as a general group? I must believe that true Christians do not act in such a way. Keep in mind some call themselves 'Christian' but do not act or believe as true Christians do. Guess you could call them posers.

Because they frequently just go by select passages and what their pastor/parents/friends tell them.

They rarely read the whole thing, almost never read it critically and in general don't educate themselves. They feel uncomfortable when their beliefs are challenged so they go to apologist websites and bask in the fallacies and misinformation there, they let it assuage them and then they go spread that nonsense.

So we have severe cognitive dissonance issues. A bunch of people who feel uncomfortable that they may be wrong (as the brain naturally does) and so they seek anything to feel better and convince themselves they're right. Of course actually using reason only creates more dissonance with their fragile beliefs, so they avoid it.

Perhaps we take seriously the command from Peter, "Instead, exalt Christ as Lord in your hearts. Always be prepared to give a defense to everyone who asks you to explain the hope you have." (I Peter 3:15)

Not everyone gets instant knowledge when they become a Christian. They do have zeal, however, and want to share what God has done for them. Those who seem to have the most zeal, lack the most knowledge. Those who have the most knowledge, often lack the zeal.

I think it is just your perception loosely based on what you see from very vocal ignorant people you have come in contact with. Wiser people tend to only speak when they have something to say and know that they could not possibly have an answer for everything

I only defend what i know about it. (as I am still learning as a Christian). If I know in advance that I won't be able to answer something because of my serious lack of knowledge I just won't go their. Simple as that.

I don't pretend to know everything and when I don't know I lerarn. But I do a lot of research and this site is good to test my own faith.

CHRISTIANS!- let's be more compassionate and understanding. If we don't know then let's say we don't and ask someone who might.

Let's not be legalistic and religious- Stop being rude!
