One response to a question I asked indicated that accepting that we are "just another animal" would be of detriment to our self esteem. However, humans are clearly animals. This is a fact of biology. I'm not sure how this would have any bearing on self esteem. Can anyone enlighten me?

[This relates to religion in that many cannot accept the idea that we evolved from an ape-like creature.]

Everyone seems to be familiar with it, but I've never met anyone who has actually read it. If you have, could you sum up what it says? I've been told that it has little to do with evolution.

We have been able to adapt and create artificial environments to sustain ourselves in areas which would normally kill us. When you think about what we are born into this world with and try to find all of the places that we would actually have a chance at survival you come up with very few.

Extrapolate that to the known universe and you have an even greater problem.

The evidence seems to support a world that was not particularly taylored for our benefit.

Universalist Church? They are wide open for atheists, Buddhists et al. There's a pretty good sense of community there.
Do you feel the need for a community or are you okay as things are now?

I could leave well alone, but somehow I don't. This is not particularly like me. Do you think a higher (or lower or equal) power is leading me to do it and if so which one? Why do you think so (or think not)? If not, then why do you think I do it?

I am interested in all considered opinions. Please do not paste scripture without an accompanying explanation.

ok so most of the more "religious" people on here will often post questions demeaning other religions or non-christians or athiests. so i'm thinking that this is not really about religion at all. because what you worship is not really that big of a deal as long as you have ethics, values and such. we all can't be alike. so what do they think? that thier religion and only thier religion teaches them values? seems kinda arrogant to me. i was raised a christian but i would never go on the attack like some of these people do.

For me, its Hinduism and Taoism. I'd really like to know more about the personal aspects of those religions, not just what is written in a textbook.

Does anyone believe in prophecies or even destiny? i'll tell you why i asked that question, apparently since i was born i been so many people have been saying to me that i have a bigger role to play in my life and that it is in my destiny to bring balance between the good and evil. last week when i was sitting at a bus stop some old lady that i saw for the very first time in my life said that she saw bright wings behind my back as though i was an angel and that i will have to play a big role in the upcoming apocalypse. i mean im only 22 years old, and ive been hearing this all my life. Its only recently that i stared believing this. What exactly is happening to me? or have i been watching too many films. For real, is this normal? am i normal? Will i have to battle Evil? or am i on the Truman Show? whats your opinion...??

We are doing Heavens Gates Hells Flames for the 14th year in a row. Last night about 50% of the people had never seen it before, and about 50% came forward to accept Christ. That is over 300 people accepting Christ, we have 2 nites to go.
