prays toward funky town:
you're right. it is a valid question, when they really want to know. most of these questions though are aimed to insult.

hi there,
I am a Christian, but although I never ask that question, I do often answer them and yep, they sure do come often, don't they?
I think the reason people ask, is because many times a person who is an athiest will spend an hour on the forum just asking questions that they know are insulting to
a person of faith. Ya know, like the guy who
asked "would Jesus be mad if he found out i bopped his mother?" -
After an hour or so, you sure are gonna get questions like "why are you even on this forum if you hate the entire idea of God so much? Don't you have something better to
do than just sit here and insult us?".
Hey, in some cases, its a fair question.
But in general, its not fair. Every person not only has the right to be here, but I personally wish for everyone to be here -
I don't like my God insulted, but I do like
all the different people to be here.
A final note: some people, whether they
are of faith or not, are just assholes, plain
and simple, and you're gonna find that everywhere you go, including right here.
Hey, have a great day anyway!!

Some people just can't figure out a life for themselves I suppose.
They seem to think that the answers are outside themselves rather than inside. Poor dears. The Bible should have given the religious bigots specific instructions.

As far as I'm concerned, Athiesm is a spiritual point of view also, too bad others have a problem with it....as long as you are answering questions with thought, and asking good questions, and not using either just for the purpose of baiting Christians, no worries here....

The people who ask the question are clearly opposed to rational thought.

There are always new faces. Not everyone is a regular, if they ask, maybe they'll get the answer.
.
You dont have to give an answer every time, just let them scroll by unless you are moved to answer.

My bet is, either they are trying to get us to say we're looking for (their particular version of) God, or they just want us to go away and stop expressing a different opinion than theirs.

Even going past the theological question, there still is a valid question,
WHY ARE YOU HERE? WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE?
This is a valid question.

Yeah. The short answer to those people is, "Religion exists, God doesn't." Do believers read philosophy? Same thing.
