I have just finished listening to Tyrannousaur Canyon by Douglas Preston on cd. After the story ended he was interviewed and they got on the subject of his viewpoints toward God and evolution.

Read the quote, tell me your response to it, and why you feel that way.

" A scientist went to an elementry school in georgia and was teaching the class about the theory of evolution and the Big Bang. After some time, a little girl raised her hand and said, 'I'm sorry but this is very surprising to me because I learned that God created the world', The scientist was quiet for a moment and said, "Well maybe this is the way He did it." -----douglas preston

When I was moving, the horoscope told me I was (Pisces). But now, when I'm totally happy at college, it says I'm restless. Some people think they're useless, others rely on them to survive. What about you?

Let everyone understand that the real love of God does not consist in tear-shedding...but in serving God by serving those around us, in justice, fortitude of soul, and humility.

Psalms 111:10, "The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of all wisdom". Nevertheless, I do not fear God. The Bible, particularly the old testament, is filled with examples of why God should be feared like a tyrranical Middle-Eastern potentate, but all my experience in real life makes the relationship between God and Man (and God and myself) seem entirely different from that described in the Bible.

Hi can any Muslims please point me to some books or articles about the Islamic theology of sin and salvation? I am interested in finding answers to questions like what is sin, why is there sin, how did it originate, what are humans supposed to do about it, and how does Allah view it and deal with it, what is the result of it (punishment? forgiveness?).

And also the Islamic concept of salvation: what is salvation, saved from what, why do people need salvation, and how does one obtain salvation? Is it related to the sin problem and if so how?

Also, do different schools of thought in islam (Shia, Sunna, Ahmadi, Muwahhidun/Salafi, Ash'arite, Mu'tazilite, etc) have different ideas about these topics. Is there any concept of a saviour, or an atonement for sin? On what basis will people be judged and condemned or acquitted on the day of judgment? Is there a record of sins in heaven?

On the aftermath of World Womens Day: March 8

http://www.womenwarpeace.org/index.htm

That specific page has the world map as it portrays the places on earth where the most conflicts are eating away at human rights.

among those humans, are the weak, like the females and the children and the elderly.

As opposed to what most people know, the worlds worst countries in terms of womens safety is El Salvador, where the majority of violent crime victims in El Salvador are women. Between 1999 and 2005, one thousand women have been murdered and of these cases, only 20 percent of the cases were brought to court.

I saw that someone answered that chicken broth was not permitted on fridays during lent but it is. you can look it up. I have read (Fr John Huels in the pastoral companion franciscan herald press) that meat juices and liquid foods made from meat are not forbidden. go ahead and look it up if you are not sure. i know its not really a question just trying to help someone out. did this help anyone?

Why did he bring it up near the end of his preaching career? And why did he refer to it as a comforter that would make them feel better? Did it really make them feel better, or just give them the willies?

Did this concept have anything to do with Paganism?

Replies from Biblical scholars appreciated.

Michael Behe says, ". . . the fundamental mechanisms of life cannot be ascribed to natural selection, and therefore were designed."

Couldn't the opposite be asserted just as easily? "The fundamental mechanisms of life cannot be ascribed to design, and therefore were naturally selected?" Why must evolution be held up to severe logical scrutiny, while the alternative -- a designer and creator -- is not?

If ID is to compete as a scientific explanation for life's origins, shouldn't it be required to justify the mechanism of the Creator's power? How exactly does a being design and create life? What chemical & physical steps are involved? Why aren't those valid scientific objections?

I don't agree that there are any truly "irreducibly complex" phenomena in nature, but if there were, I would argue that a designer could no more be postulated without evidence than a series of successive variations could be.

Proponents of Intelligent Design, how do you respond to that?

Must be something like that. You don't like that after 40 years of liberal bull crap we are still here and stronger today than we ever were? But you answer your own questions with your answers, calling people like me, fundies. Of course if a person does not believe the fundamental values in a belief system, that would not make it much of a belief, would it?

Athiest: Person that through their studies of the different religious texts and documents does not find enough, if any, proof that would make them believe in a higher power to which others worship such as a single god or multiple gods, Close enough.
This out of the way my question? if you claim to be an athiest than what/ why would there be any need to continually bother these so called christians by asking for proof over and over when as an athiest you should have already read these same texts. If a person wishes to believe in a higher power, santa, easter bunny, even if it bothers you THIS IS THEIR RIGHT - AS YOU HAVE YOURS! Enjoy you assembly/fellowships rights and allow others theirs?

Also as long as the feeling is there. For example: you're walking then all of a sudden you notice an attractive woman, you look with wide eyes... and she notices you, should one look away or just smile? It sounds as if it's okay but I mean where's the line of lust and and initial just looking cause you're attracted to each other?

...and you would nicely listen to my proof, think about it, read about if needed, you would even do some research...and after that you'd come to the conclusion that you don't think my proof was very convincing...

Would that be enough reason for me to call you immoral ? Would it be enough reason for me to 'warn' you about the eternal pain you will feel simply because you thought my proof was kinda silly? Would it give me the right to whine if my kids weren't allowed to mention my Holy Nephew in science class?

I want to know why many of you would send someone a threatening e mail or speak hateful to someone who does not believe in God? I mean honestly--this is only making the truth of Jesus Christ look bad--and we who are saved KNOW this is NOT the way to share the truth--because we are suppose to "love" our enemies, no matter how hard it is--take their persecutions and just let them roll off your back- remember when the truth is shared, many will get mad, and that just means hearts are being convicted, God is working in many--but if you come across hateful or self righteous, it is only going to push them away even more. I am just really sad that I see so many asking questions about christians who send hate e mails. If any of you out there do this, please just sit back and think about it.....ask the Lord to give you a love for others and a gentle speech when talking to others- I know it is hard at times, but we can do it!
