Is there anything documented we have done throughout history to make us such savage beasts as what we are made out to be. If im a non believer am i a true atheist or is there more to it im confused.

I mean when it comes down to it, it seems to me that all Christianity is a series of Elaborate Catch Phrases and bible verses. I find the most simple minded people I know say things that I know they themselves could not think of on their own. It seems like they are all just repeating what they heard in Church. Does it seem this way to anyone else? And what are some of your favorites?
Mine are "well they aren't real Christians Then"
And "God Is love"

Those who are faithful believers of the supernatural follow reason until reason fails to answer the questions that only a faithful decision can answer. Those who are not believers of the supernatural are unable to or unwilling to rely on the chances of mere belief and hence trust in what they have observed or have learned to have been founded in fact.

Would you say that a faithful believer is ultimately lead to becoming trusting of his own emotional desire while the rational thinker sets his emotion aside? Is this an accurate picture of how we two groups, theists vs atheists, differ?

Please give your responses...

I asked this question three days ago ( http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070302221508AA1tC8J&r=wand ) and it got only three responses. I'm wondering if there might be a few thoughtful people who missed a chance to consider it....

I'm an atheist to all Gods, but weirdly enough I only get accused of "Mocking the Lord" by Christians. And I'm seriously curious how that works in peoples heads.

When somebody starts a religion, which is mainly based on the death of a guy named Jesus, and all the so called miracles this Jesus did were copied from several other religions (Mithras, Dionysus, Horus, etc, etc)..that means Christianity started as one big mockery of several Gods.

So, true question: is it mockery to mock mockery?

So I had a conversation with...can't remember. But they said truth was not relative. So I said 2+2=4. They said that it was in a base of 2, but in a base of 4, 10 it was something else.
He responded by making a factual/ absolutely true statement.
So is truth relative? If so, what do you mean. Are you saying there is NO truth or do you mean the APPLICATION of that truth is relative depending on the situation?

To celebrate it's 250th anniversary, our church will be burying a time capsule to be opened in 25 or 50 years. We want things that will symbolize the world around us (such as a stamp and current NY Times), our church (sermon preached on our anniversary Sunday) and our church school (prayers written by the kids). Any other ideas of what to include? Or suggestions on what to use that will keep it all well-preserved?

Ok, here are the perimeters. No religious books per se. I know you think the Bible, the Quaran, the gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster ect hold all truth, so there is no point in listing those. I want from 1 to 5 books. I will start with one, "Cat's Cradle" by Kurt Vonnegut. The books dont have to be fiction. I am asking because I think this can give us insight into each other.

If I can come up with half a dozen theories (i have btw) that are equally as convincing as "god created the universe" and which have basically the exact same illlogical and rediculous flaws and reasoning to it as "god created the universe" laid out in grand technicolour - does this not disprove the existence of god?

Whether you blame Islam for terrorism, deny the Holocaust, or say homosexuality is unnatural, you will always be attacked on this message board for championing an unpopular view. Words like 'bigot' have been used so many times they've lost their meaning and can now be applied to anyone whose way of thinking you don't like! People forget freedom of speech means respect for EVERYONE'S right to speak, not just atheists or gay rights activists. If someone seriously believes blacks are genetically inferior to whites or the Holocaust has no authenticity, why shouldn't they have a chance to explain themselves? People can debunk them by using the same right. So why do people here gang up on others and report even civil answers and questions? Every one of my questions about homosexuality has been reported. Are gays trying to criminalize my right to say it's unacceptable? Just because people have to respect each other doesn't mean we all have to think alike.

For those who bash people of other religions, or of no religion, doesn't it ever get old? I mean, do you not get tired of it, and don't you want PEACE for once???

Can't we all just get along??? LOL, yeah that's such a cliché, but for real, isn't everyone sick of the insults already?

As for funny questions/answers, I'm not talking about these. Long Live TWSIDR! Long Live Corky! Long Live Anger Management, lol! People like this, they're fine in my book, downright funny. I'm talking about the real venom here, the ones who spew hatred.

Really you guys, get a grip! Be nice!

go back and read old watchtower publications? Considering that they have publicly predicted the Return & End of Age & Gods Kingdom beginning on Earth in 1914, 1918, 1925, 1975 (I might have missed one) and have been wrong EVERY time. How many times does the WATCHTOWER have to be guilty of False Prophecying before their own members realize that they are FALSE prophets? I mean, ALL of their predictions have been published in their own lititure and they've NEVER been right. Don't they EVER bother to check things out THEMSELVES and read their own organizations old publications?

you know, besides 'god did it'. Is there anything more to it? Some peer-reviewed stuff I can go through? Because all I can seem to find is them attacking evolution, not positing any replacing theories.

(unless "god did it" is everything they've got)

i think devils and many more bad pawers(tention etc.) always help god, in past and in present, they just make us feeling helpless. and ultimately we have to say 'o god please help me'. so if there will no bad things in life, every budy will happy by his own, and no need of god at all. i think god 'the creator' is very much cleaver and made such bad powers to use as reminder for mankind to remind god. & be the only player of whole game. wt u think?

Do you think it's when you sin more than 70 times 7 times in a day, the number told by Jesus as the number you can forgive?

Or do you think he waits till a little after, sneaking in with a heart attack, "THAT WILL TEACH THE SINNER WHO'S BOSS!"

What part of destroying them do you think he salivates over the most? Slow roasting them? Kicking them INTO hell? Laughing as he pokes them every now & then with fire irons?

It is obvious in Scripture that the grace of GOD has been extended in the New Covenant to all cultural groups. GOD accepts bikers just as they are; and it is past time for straight-laced Christians to get over it. We don't have to look like you. We don't have to dress like you. And (here's a wake-up call) Jesus was a first-century Jew, not a 21st century Westerner. If the Bible did advocate any culture, it would be the Jewish culture. But under the New Covenant we are free.

I am willing to work together. If you want to wear a shirt and tie to church, that's great. And you'll reach a few people who expect Christians or ministers to dress formally. At the same time, we're reaching thousands by dressing normally.

If you're interested in obeying our LORD Jesus Christ in the Great Commission, we can help. We will accept you just the way you are (like Jesus does).

GOD bless you.

"Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified. Let your kingdom come. Let your will take place, as in heaven, also upon earth. Give us today our bread for this day; and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the wicked one." - Matthew 6:9-13

“Our Father in the heavens, let your NAME be sanctified.” (Matthew 6:9).
This means that God has a name - Jehovah.
God’s name, Jehovah, appears nearly 7,000 times in ancient Bible manuscripts. However, some translators have gone so far as to remove this name from their versions of the Bible. Rightly, therefore, we pray for our Creator to sanctify his name, or make it holy. (Ezekiel 36:23) One way to act in harmony with such a prayer is to use the name Jehovah when we pray to God.

“Let your KINGDOM come. Let your will take place, as in heaven, also upon earth.” (Matthew 6:10) .
Jehovah’s prophet Daniel foretold: “The God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be brought to ruin. And the kingdom itself will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these [earthly] kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite.” (Daniel 2:44) This heavenly Kingdom, or government, will soon take action to bring about global peace under righteous rule.—2 Peter 3:13.
