people sometimes star it, then write an answer, meaning there is a gap in time between them posting their answer, and the question being starred. If you bring up the page after they have starred it and before they have answered it, you will see this.
I also have starred questions I did not even like on accident, it happens.

Because they don't feel like answering the question just leaving a star with it.

I mostly try to not answer a question I've starred, because it might look like I was starring it to try and get best answer. There have been exceptions, though.

could it be the same reason people put question under categories that don't match.. Kind of like the question "Why do people sometimes star a question but don't leave an answer" its under the category religion and spirituality .. Maybe its just me but I don't see the connection :o)

The star means, "I find this question interesting". Perhaps answers have already been left that speak for the person leaving the star or perhaps they just want to keep an eye on the question to see what else is added. Perhaps they like the question and want to register their approval without adding anything.
Why does it bother you?

I dont even get why they added the star but i think they might have the same question and just want to see what other people say.

Because they may want the answer of that question too or think it is a good question. It would be kind of pointless to just leave an answer saying "good question" or something

I starred, because I've wondered about this question myself.
Then I thumbs upped what I thought were good answers.

I believe it was due to, it made tracking the question easier. Now that Answers has the friend network system, people may slow down on this practice.
