I found this in my archives, and thought it might entertain a few of you:

No God Needed?

One day a group of scientists got together and decided that humans had
come a long way and no longer needed God. So they picked one scientist to
go and tell God so.

The scientist walked up to God and said, "God, we've decided that we no
longer need you; We're to the point that we can clone people and do many
miraculous things, so why don't You just go on and get lost."

God listened very patiently and kindly to the man.

After the scientist was done talking, God said, "Very well, how about
this? Let's say we have a man-making contest."

To which the scientist replied, "Okay, great!"

"But," God added, "we're going to do this just like I did back in the old
days with Adam."

The scientist said, "Sure, no problem" and bent down and grabbed himself a
handful of dirt.

God looked at him and said, "No, no, no. You go get your own dirt."

Hello, all:

I am Wiccan, and as I was trained, "all Gods are one God and all Goddesses are one Goddess" -- basically, that there is ultimate unity in the Divine.

Lately I have been questioning my position, or more accurately my theory that all religions can be valid paths to the same destination (that ultimate Divinity).

What are your theories? How do you feel about the "all God/desses are one God/dess" proposition? If it is accurate, can that unified Divinity be approached through different paths, when so many of the paths conflict in their points of view about Divinity and how to reach it?

Thank you to all who take the time to respond.

Why couldn't he write the Bible, or the Qur'an himself? It would be such an insignificant task to magically package a bible with each new soul don't you think... i mean, it would be pretty difficult not to know god is real then. Instead he plays hide and go seek with us (that is assuming he even exists) and expects us to accept or reject him without any real reason to do so.

Why give ancient people, who were even more ignorant than we are, the important task of writing down his words? More to the point, the bible doesn't even read like something you would expect a god to author... it sounds more like an ancient historical account corrupted by myth and legend. That is what we would expect to find if it was purely human.

By arguing that you are better than someone else, that implies that there is some kind of moral judgement being imposed by a higher constraint. It also implies that there is some kind of purpose or meaning behind what we do and think other than existing. Atheists don't believe in any absolute truth other than the laws of nature or science, so what gives them the right to decide that. If virtue is self appointed rather than based on an objective standard, then it becomes somewhat arbitrary and meaningless. Human values are largely subjective and change over time and differ among cultures, so that means a person is only good because they fall within the cultural norm and not because it's the right thing. If the world decided that behaviours like polygamy and prostitution was moral, how would you be able to question if there's no higher constraint. Why would a human even be more virtuous than an animal? Nature does not have any special consideration for humans, nor does it act with purpos

86% of the people in the US claim to be Christian -- that leaves 14% that seem to hate Christians and find it fulfilling to trash someone else's beliefs on this site. I don't get it. Where is the love?

...that most people who have changed religions/beliefs from what they were taught as a kid, were Christian?

So why is it that Christians here feel the need to spread their religion? It isn't like you are going to say much that most people who are of different religion/beliefs (including myself) haven't already heard.

here is why it is a good idea

people cant say they dont have candy

it is warmer than holloween

for the first few years you will probobly be the only person in your neighborhood dooing it so more candy for you.

if you really want to mess with people you can ask for eggs and if they don't give you any you can throw candy at there house.

there are more reasons i am just too lazy to write them all
think of some yourself

the only thing idont know is if we should ware costumes or not?
your feedback is appreciated.

Think about how human beings design something: We have lots of different ideas (variation). We decide between them on the basis of which we think will be the most successful or satisfying (selection). We create things of gradually increasing complexity, building on what went before.

This is exactly how evolution works, except that in the case of intelligent design we can anticipate and work towards a goal, thus greatly accelerating the process. Intelligent design is a powerful new form of evolution.

This explains why people think that life exhibits intelligent design - Not because life is actually the product of intelligence, but because intelligent design means just doing what evolution has always done, but better and faster. We should recognise the signs of evolution in design, not design in evolution.

Does this make sense?
