There is nothing that I can do to earn salvation. It is a gift given to me through Christ, the living God, who died on the cross that I may have everlasting life. So I guess I try to live right to give glory to God for His gift of salvation. Praise God!

Let me clear up a few things for everyone. You cannot get your salvation out of the Epistles. Let me explain. Everyone that was saved went through Acts 2:38 on the day of Pentecost. The first day, there was about 3,000 alone. The next day, there was more. These people then went to their respective home cities and started meeting on Sunday A.M.'s, usually around sunup, to praise and worship Jesus Christ. These were the first Church's. The Apostles wrote letters and sometimes visited these groups of people to teach them how to remain saved. The Book of Acts was written to get you saved and the Epistles were written to keep you saved!! If you wait until the Epistles to get your salvation, you will have missed it. I figure you should know this now, as compared to not being saved finding out the hard way.

Obedience to God is required but it is not what earns salvation, salvation cannot be earned,it is God's loving kindness by which we receive this free gift from God, (Romans6:23) shows that we can earn death which is the wages of sin but it is the gift from God to receive eternal life through Jesus Christ, but of course just because this is a gift does not mean that we do not need do do anything to be eligible for this gift of God. No we need to be obedient to him and do his will, doing so will not buy us everlasting life but it will please God and bring us his love, it is this love that will motivate God to give his gift to us. isn't it true that any of us are motivated by love to give freely to people? It is true of God also, he will not reward wrong behaviour just as he would not punish right behaviour instead of blessing it.

You live right because of Jesus' gift of salvation. To live right to earn salvation would mean that salvation is by works. Although in certain religions, such as catholicism, you perform acts of penance for forgiveness of sins ( as if Jesus' sacrifice on the cross was not enough to atone for our transgressions), the Word of God states clearly that you are not saved by works, lest any man should boast. But rather, when being saved by grace through faith, our faith will be evident by the works we do and the fruits we bear.

We earn existence by believing in Jesus Christ. Through Him we can only gain our salvation, eternal life.

Ephesians 2:4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ--by grace you have been saved-- 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
With such a great God and such a great gift who wouldn't want to do the good works that He has planned in advance for us to do to glorify Him?

Only the grace of God by the finished work of Jesus Christ can save us. No one can live right or work their way into heaven. Only through Jesus will we get to heaven. I hope to see you there.

Ephesians 2:8-10
8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9not by works, so that no one can boast. 10For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Faith is a must but once you have it you have got to show it. That's where the works come into play. You have to be obedient to God. You can't just sin and repent, sin and repent, over and over again. The two should naturally go together.
May God Bless you.

You can't earn your way into heaven. It's a gift
Jesus gives us, but like any other gift, you have
to accept the gift and the Giver before you can
receive it. Do It !
