As for the television shows, I would say these "ghosts" are just sensationalized hype. As for ghosts being real, I can't absolutely answer that. I would say that I doubt it, but seeing as how I have no personal experience with "ghosts", nor can I disprove them, the most I can say is it's highly unlikely. Don't bank too much on the TV shows, they are mostly just trying to scare the crap out of viewers.
