Gravity is just a theory, just like evolution... Schools are being yelled at for teaching the theory of evolution, so... if schools aren't allowed to teach the theory of evolution, do you think they should be able to teach the theory of gravity...?

The definition of a SCIENTIFIC THEORY is as follows: a theory is an explanation or model based on observation, experimentation, and reasoning, especially one that has been tested and confirmed as a general principle helping to explain and predict natural phenomena.

Any scientific theory must be based on a careful and rational examination of the facts. A clear distinction needs to be made between facts (things which can be observed and/or measured) and theories (explanations which correlate and interpret the facts.

If it were up to certain Fundamentalist/Evangelicals science wouldn't be allowed at all point blank period.

I agree, but I would like to share a bit of wisdom with this place:

"Gravity isn't a theory, its been proven"

I love this quote as it sums up the entire ignorance of most people towards science today.

Aside from the fact that nothing can be 'proven' in science (proof only occurs in maths), people need to learn the correct use of the word theory.

A scientific theory is a claim which is supported by all available evidence and is used to explain facts. The theory of gravity explains the fact of gravity, hence Pangel will not fall off the planet if she doesn't believe in the theory of gravity, as we all learn at a very young age that reality does not bend to our will.

The theory of evolution is (like gravity) an idea supported by all available evidence, which explains the fact of evolution (common descent, speciation, random mutation, all are facts).

LOL >>

Gravity is a fact; it can also be called a theory. It says it on the Wikipedia link you added. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolution_as_theory_and_fact

That sort of cancels each other out -- theory & fact -- Weird. Wikipedia seems flawed.

Schools in America are allowed to teach the theory of evolution; but there is no biological evidence that is strong enough to argue it; so what if we share a similiar DNA to that of a primate? We have more in common with trees when it comes to DNA; we share more DNA similarities with trees (97%) than we do with primates (>80%) believe it or not.

In my opinion; schools should teach everything they can fit into those puny little minds. The kids will eventually be adults and have enough knowledge to be logical and choose what fits and what doesn't. We can't pick and choose everything that goes into their heads in an attempt to create the perfect child.

I personally have been taught the theory of evolution at age 11; and then again at age 14; and then again at age 18 in 3 different biology courses. I then took a course specifically dealing with the theory of evolution on an advanced level. I choose not to believe it; but that's my opinion. A classmate who I'v been taught with since age 5 chooses to believe it. To each his own.

I never heard a school that gets yelled at for teaching the theory of evolution, though this is pretty interesting.

If schools aren't allowed to teach the theory of evolution, I think they are able to teach the theory of gravity. No one can stop them of doing so. Lucky for them though to be able to do that without much distraction that they ain't allowed.

Theory of gravity existed, but because gravity's been proven, it's no longer called the Theory of Gravity, but The Law of Gravity.

The theory of gravity does not contradict the word of God who created the laws of gravity....

Also, a theory is not equivalent to a proven fact no matter how much scrutiny it has endured or how much evidence supports it - hence, there are many theories that have proven in time to be false...as will all theories that contradict the Word of the Creator

Lets take a believer and drop them from a building to prove that gravity exists .They seem to be the only ones complaining about the theory being taught .
If the believers see the result of our experiment ,they just might start to believe in evolution.

Definition of theory: A set of statements or principles devised to explain a group of facts or phenomena, especially one that has been repeatedly tested or is widely accepted and can be used to make predictions about natural phenomena.

Schools ARE allowed to teach the theory of evolution. Note repeatedly tested and widely accepted. Both of these fit the theory of evolution.

A "theory" in science is not the same thing as a "theory" in literature or other subjects. When people talk about a scientific theory, they are talking about something that is backed with facts, studies, and proof. It is not just an IDEA.

Your confusing theory with facts. Gravity isn't a theory.

The word science is misused when it is spoken of in such a way as to imply that all scientists are in some sort of universal agreement when it comes to the subject of origins.

The atheists would like you to believe this. But even the evolutionists are divided over how evolution works, and ever since Darwin the theory has undergone numerous changes and reversals.

Why do you call people fu**ing retards, etc.? Gravity is NOT a theory, idiot. It is a proven fact. There is the LAW of gravity, not the THEORY of gravity ! So......who is the retard?

Definition of theory is as follows; theory n. conjecture or SPECULATION; a body of fundamental or ABSTRACT principals underlying an art, science, etc., a PROPOSED EXPLANATION. (WEBSTER). I don't see the word fact anywhere in the definition. You thumbs down Webster, what you think you know more or something?
