All my Catholic mates from when i lived in Ireland say its bad luck to let Jehovah's Witnesses in to your house. And as for mormons, they came round my house one day and tried to convert me and i couldnt get rif of them, though eventually i did. Then they started coming round all the time and i had to stop answering the door to them, lol.

The idea of a fight between the 2 is a grand idea. Maybe the BBC should make it the comic relief boxing match.

A common misconception is that Jehovah's Witnesses go from door-to-door because they feel it is their duty to "recruit" a householder, or get him to "convert". In fact, Jehovah's Witnesses would go from door-to-door even if there were no hope that anyone would change their religion, or even if no one would listen to them!

That is because Jesus Christ specifically assigned the house-to-house ministry to the Christian congregation, with no regard for specific results.

(Luke 10:1,2) After these things the Lord designated seventy others and sent them forth by twos in advance of him into every city and place to which he himself was going to come. 2 Then he began to say to them: “The harvest, indeed, is great, but the workers are few. Therefore beg the Master of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.

Jehovah's Witnesses are trained to direct attention to the bible, and move on when their message is unwanted. Since each congregation in the United States tries to call at every home in its territory at least twice each year, there is strong motivation for them to move on where little interest is shown. Also, the Scriptures help the Witnesses to expect little interest from most:

(2 Timothy 4:3-5) For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the healthful teaching ...and they will turn their ears away from the truth, whereas they will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keep your senses in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelizer, fully accomplish your ministry.

I always wanted to go to Ireland. My Dad's family was from there. His Dad was a red headed Kinney.

Well I can see you have a true misconception about Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormans.

I am a Jehovah's Witnesses and have respect for Mormans, even though I do not agree with all their beliefs, I respect that they go door to door and that they are very family oriented.

A few facts about Jehovah's Witnesses. There are over 6.5 million witnesses in 236 lands. So no matter where you live today, you are bound to have one come to your door evidentially.

It is not our purpose to convert people, but to share the bibles hope of God's Kingdom that we pray for in the lords prayer at Matt. 6: 9 & 10 "that your kingdom come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." The whole theme of the bible is God's Kingdom and it's purpose for humans and the earth. Jesus is now ruling in heaven as king of that kingdom and he will bring about those promises that his father has given us. We do offer free home bible studies to those interested, but to become a Jehovah's Witnesses can take at the least a year or more. You have to study and be convinced that it is the truth and be living your life in harmony with God's standards before you can be baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses.

As someone mentioned eariler, we go door to door following Jesus example and his command at Matt 24:14 "This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth, and then the end will come." As far as I know, Jehovah's Witnesses are the only ones fulfilling this scripture.

I can promises you that Jehovah's Witnesses or Mormans coming to your door does not bring "bad luck". Jehovah's Witnesses are not superstitous and do not get involved in anything spiritistic.

The next time some Witnesses come to your door, ask them about the Kingdom hope, they will be more than happy to share it with you. Look it up in your own bible, you might just like what you hear.

WOW! well, looks like we have a winner-mormons! Honestly though for me, I rather have Jehovah's Witnesses come to my door. Yes, i admit they are very determine and dedicated to their work as preachers but they LOVE their world wide brotherhood. I used to live in Mississippi. I read newspapers that when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, the first group of people who came to give a helping hand and fed the hungry were Jehovah's Witnesses. Because they acted so quick it was easier for their Watchtower trucks to get into the city with food, clothing, and other necessities! They took care of their own people giving them decent shelters and food and extended this same help to those who didn't share their faith! They acted quicker than our government or any other religious groups! When the Tsunami hit Asia, first thing jehovah's witnesses did (again, before the local goverment) was help out those in need-took people they didn't know into their homes and fed them. I've never heard any other religious group who are so quick to give a helping hand. Why wasn't it breaking news? Well, because no one really cares about JWs. People think they are just some cult converting others into their religion. In times of distress, believe me, I would prefer Jehovah's Witnesses around. You can trust them with your life from the experiences i've read. So, what is so bad luck about them? oh! Mormons? i saw 2 of them today riding their bikes. :-)

Dear Tam,

Are you asking about letting them in on a social basis or about doing a Bible study? I do know a whole lot more about the false prophecies of the jws so I would suggest you go with what you know best. Read the Bible (not the black books from either organization) so that you can enjoy the visits of either group and be the one doing the teaching.

I do NOT believe in luck and I tend not to socialize with those who do. I do have a lot of Watchtower Witness relatives so I do see them more. Through the years they have given me a whole lot of the Watchtower publications. When I read their material and ask questions they tell me that "We don't use that one any more. Here read this new magazine or book."

I do have friends who are lds but I am able to simply have a friendship with them without out having to hear anything about their unbiblical religion.

While I try to avoid people seeking to convert me, if I had to choose between those two groups, I'd rather talk to a Mormon. Join, no. Talk with, yes.

In the region I live in, the Mormons seem to be consistently well-educated and understand what polite and impolite mean. With the J's Witnesses, I find them pushy, all too often lacking a clear understanding of things outside their religion (such as, for example, grammar), and if I question them about lesser-known sections of the Bible (such as, "What four insects were the Hebrews permitted to eat?"), they get very uneasy.

Mentioning that I'm not descended from Eve does that too. On the other paw, my Mormon and Baptist co-workers have no problems with my being only partially human.

Apart from superstition - If either come round to my house, I keep my foot firmly against the door so it only opens a couple of inches. I then inform them that I don't buy anything at the door, and certainly not religion. Admittedly Mormons are easier to spot than Jehovah's Witnesses.

if you can handle a reasty devil prayer of contempt of life then the Jehovah's Witness. if you can handle a hand extended for a handshake as if it is protocol then the mormon. Don't give either these benefits and see whats left. Defend yourself with a bat if you have to. Catholics never come over but if some spirits do I send more people for the ultimate "singing" they can't wait to tell about. Episklians and Lutherans can only bring me unpoisoned food.

i would let jehovah's witnesses in . they base all their teachings on gods word the bible and not on mans. they are in a worldwide godlike organization just like god intended .some people may wonder why jehovahs witnesses always go around knocking on people' s doors and when you tell them you are not interested they keep coming back? well the answer is that they follow jesus prophsy in matthew 24:14 when it says " this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations and then the end will come." jehovah's wittnesses are only doing what god wants. teaching people about the loving kindness that god has for us. They were originally called bible students instead od jehovahs wittnesses and they recieved their name from the bible in isaiah 43:10 where it says "you are my wittnesses" many people dont know that gods name is jehovah either it is found in the bible in psalms 83:18.i dont know if this helped you any but the bottom line is johovahs wittnesses are very kind honest people. maybe you should take the time out to Really listen to one of them.

I would also welcome a Jehovah Witnesses into my home. they don't lie, smoke or steal anything. no we do not come to your house to clean for you. that is your problem to do. we are not maids for you. we do not try to change your religion. people laughed at Jesus Christ also. they laughed at Noah when he was telling people to help him with the ark and that it would rain and they just laughed and laughed. Jehovah destroyed the wicked and he will do it again, he is not going to destroy the earth. the meek shall inherit the earth. hell is only the common grave, not something that would harm you. if you come to the door naked you would be the fool. if you want us to leave, all you have to say is I am not interested. it works all the day, we just say have a good day and leave.

I prefer Mormons. Every experience with them I've had has been positive, while I've had a couple negative experiences with Jehovah's Witnesses.
