Yes Lent represents the 40 days christ wandered the desert being tempted by satan. typically a catholic is expected to give up something for that period--to go without the way christ was without food and water. you have to give up something that is very difficult for you--for example many people give up soda or coffee. I tend to give up my favorite food.

typically catholics do not eat meat on fridays during this period. a traditionalist would not eat meat during the entire 40 days. it's not so much specific things you eat though lentil soup is served a lot.

You fast on Ash Wednesday (the first day of Lent and day right after MartiGras) and during Good Friday. It lasts from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday.

Lent is the six weeks (or forty days) before Easter. During Lent, Christians take time to think about what Jesus has done for them by dying on the cross. Many Christians give something up for Lent, like chocolate, pop, or sweets in general. At most Lenten suppers, there are no rules about what you can and can't eat. Catholics, however, don't eat red meat on Fridays. They have fish, instead. Hope I could help!

The rules are different for different denominations. The Eastern Orthodox are much more strict!!

Seriously - check this out....I'm not joking about the Orthodox!!

For me, it's simple - less food every day (fasting) - no meat on Wednesdays and Fridays (abstinence) from Ash Wed. thru the end of the Easter Mass. Sundays are always feast days - they don't count!!

Ash Wednesday
Abstinent or Abstinence tie into "lent" an annual season of fasting and pentience in preparation for "Easter". Beginning on Ash Wednesday lasting 40 days to Easter, lenghtening of Spring. Easter a day commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Observed on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal equinox. Vernal, spring relating to or occurring in the Spring. Fresh or new like the Spring also. Equinox either of the two points on the celestial equator intersects the ecliptic. 2 Either of the two times each year(as about March 21 and Sept 23) when the sun crosses the equator and day and night are everywhere on the earth of approximately equal length. Either of the two moments in the year when the Sun is exactly above the equator and day and night are of equal length; also, either of the two points in the sky where the ecliptic ( the sun's annual pathway) and the celestial equator intersect. The vernal equinox, marking the beginning of Spring in the Northern Hemisphere, occurs about March 21, when the Sun moves North across. Resurrection rising again from the dead that of Christ. Dominus n. Latin God, the Lord. Dominus Vobiscum. Latin "the Lord be with you". It's latin, of course, but certainly not something Caesar or Cicero ever said. It means " GOD be with you (plural)" and was said a lot as Christianity began to dominate the Latin speaking world, and continued to be said through the middle Ages among the clergy. Who like all literate people of the day knew Latin. "Ephah" the same as 05890- Lengthen of days, Spring, Easter, Moon overshadowing Sun, are all typologys of the flesh over shadowing or masking God. When you study the word darkness it touches on God being hidden by darkness, pharoah being smitten in darkness. God is "genius" there is none like him; he made us his shield and covering an illusion of a big reality. He is doing everything and he is behind all things performing his will, Where the spirit of the Lord is there is liberty. dominus the Lord be with you! The phrase breaks down like this " Dominus" means "God", and is not capitalized in latin because capitalization was just not done in latin, except in modern versions of texts which are adjusted to accomdate the tastes of modern readers ' Vobiscum" is a bit more complex. It's a combination of "vobis" the dative (indirect object) form of "vos". Which is the plural form of "you" in latin, and bis which means with. As in many languages, words often combine automatically so *** joins "vobis" to form "vobiscum" whenever they are used together. The same happens with "mecum" and "tecum" (with me and with you (sing) respectively) In closing let's all celebrate the union of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ, who visibly painted a picture of what God truly wanted and wants out of us Eze 46:1-10v and Luke 9:57-62 v. And enjoy the glorious wisdom of our Father "Jehovah" who's ways are glorious and marvelous who supercedes all things in the earth!! http://pureword.21.forumer.com

Oh shoot today is Friday and I just had three bacon sandwiches. Oh woe is me.

Edit: Old-bag, what do you mean wrong religion? Pork is meat isn't it? Today is a Friday during lent isn't it? Good Catholics only eat fish (no other meat) on Fridays during lent.
