Can you convince someone to believe in God, when they have very solid arguments for not believing? Can you convince someone to stop believing based on argument alone? Both Atheists and Believers are devoted to thinking about God. The only difference is, Atheists are trying to forget God, and Believers are trying to remember God. Does it really matter to God? He doesn't require either belief or non-belief. It is the DEVOTION that God accepts and reciprocates. Whether you are devoted to forgetting God, or remembering God, why contend with each other?

Dont get me wrong - I'm highly involved and not in danger of dropping out, and I dont want the social butterflies to drop out either. I'm sure each of us gets and gives something to the church.

But seeing people who lack sincerity has eroded much of my confidence over the years. Now I'm on a quest to regain that confidence.

I wan't quite sure how to word this but Just wondering if this has affected anyone else the same way?

Okay. I hear what a lot of you are saying. That we are not born with any AMOUNT of faith, but that we either accept God or don't by recieving Him when God calls to us. But, if you think about it, that's a contradiction. Because when God speaks to you, what determines whether you believe it is him or not? YOUR FAITH. So... why do some people believe it's Him and others don't? The only logical explanation is that people have different levels of faith. However, let me clarify. I'm not saying faith is genetic. If anything, I'm saying it's a matter of the spirit. And also, I do agree that if we are all born with zero faith, different life circumstances would create different outlooks and thereby effect us differently. But that's still iffy because people respond to life circumstances in different ways. So, it seems the more I write, the more this looks like a chicken and egg question. What came first, THE LEVEL OF FAITH OR THE DECISION MADE BASED ON LEVEL OF FAITH? (the plot thickens... lol

than why has there been more deaths in the name of religion than any other cause? Why do religious people believe so strongly that they are right? That kind of arrogance is one of the biggest problems with the world. Why is it that Christians have the loudest voice that there religion is the right one. Are they not able to realize that everyone else believes what they believe and dont really care what they have to say?

Honestly, can you tell me that every single person the world will have the chance to accpet Christ? Think about the countries in the middle east where Christ's name can't be mentioned. Or the communist countries where Christianity has never been preached, and they do exist. You actually claim that everyone will be able to hear and understand who Christ is? If this is possible please explain. Also, even if you claim everyone in our time period will, what about all the people through the 18th and 19th century when your Christianity hadn't even touched the East, thousands of people were dying. Did the Word reach all of them? If so, how? Please give actual docrtine not just opinions.

Scientists have deliberated on why we do not go on living forever, because of the cells abilities to rejuvanate. They say that they are perplexed and can not offer an answer on that matter, yet, these same scientists put forth a flow chart for evolution. WHy? well, give them a break, they have to have their proof, their data. thats what science works upon. theories and proofs. Thats why its easier for them to say we evolved. They can not prove God's existence, even though he exists. The cell theory is just another scientific goof. God made man's years 120. That was done thousands of years ago and science has not been succesful in changing that. Science has given us microwave ovens, nintendo and nuclear explosions. But, they can not solve the deeper mysteries of life.

This questionwas prompted by anothers question. Now I believe that humans are all descendants of space people who landed here many years ago. The theory is sound especially when one considers the model many many years old that has dimensions that are good on land air or sea, and also below the sea and in space. Our technology has as yet been unable to establish any propulsion system that is sustainable for that.
After easter "Christ" supposedly went up to heaven up steps.. "into a space craft".
This goes on and there is case for tie ups in many religions.
So there begets a question, are we descendants of persons from out of space.

has the bible change from time to time? does god change his mind from one day to another?........i mean that decades ago churches wouldn't dare talk about birth control or sex; they had rejected stem cell and now it seems they're changing their minds about it....etc.

I'm fourteen and I'm Atheist. Thing is, my family doesn't know. Only my friends USED to know. My family's a bunch of devoted catholic stuff and I don't believe in any of it at all. I never did. But I go to church because I feel it's not a big deal and I was going to tell them once I moved out. So, no adults USED to know that I was atheist, I kept it to me and my friends because I always thought that the adults would tell my parents about it and I don't know what I'd do: My parents would stop talking to me and my older brother would kill me because he wants to be a preist and he doesn't want any non believer that he knows alive. My teachers found out that I was Atheist and I'm really worried that they'll tell my family by mistake next week during a parent teacher conference. I don't know what to do. I can't let my family know that I'm an atheist yet. You have no idea how devoted they are. So, please, if you have any advice on what I should do, please let me know! Thank you so much

shouldn't you at least read the Origin of Species, or another introductory book, to at least know what theory you are opposing?
You guys are always telling non-fundies to read the Bible, and most of us actually have.

I am renting a home from the church my daughters, ages 9 and 3, go to with their grandparents. We just received a notice of eviction from them, claiming that we did not pay our December rent, we have the money order stubs and receipts to prove that we did, they are not accepting those and threatening to evict us on Monday. I am not worried about the eviction as we have the proof needed to stand up in court if it comes to that, and I have already consulted a lawyer, my question is whether I should let my children continue to attend a church that is obviously lacking integrity.

They have done this to one other family as well, we had to wait to move until our lease was up, but now they are trying to work the same game on us. I think I should remove my kids from this church, I do not go to church, but if i did I sure as hell would choose one that practices what it preaches so to speak. What would you do?

Heres the deal... My husband is catholic and I am christian. His family are die hard catholics and my family is very much against catholics. We have a 15 month old daughter that his family has been pushing that we get babtised. My husband and even more so his family wants her to be babtised at a catholic church. My mother and family are very upset by this and I am stuck in the middle. If she is babtised catholic does that mean she is catholic? What do I do about the family? She is due to be babtised next sat and my mother isnt speaking to me. Also what happens during a catholic babtism..sprinkle of water or full summersion? Thanks!

many religions seem like they don't tolerate each other and go on saying that they are not religious enough, that their beliefs are wrong, etc.
