God made our lives. Before Adam and Eve at the apple, God said, "If you eat of this tree, you will die." Since then, every son of Adam and daughter of Eve has owed their lives to God. If you have ever sinned, you cannot say, "I deserve to live," and truly mean it. Therefore, God is not being arbitrary when he takes us off the earth. It is only a matter of _when_.
God was just in removing the people from the earth during the time of the flood. They rejected him, and in doing so, they rejected their own lives, which he had given them. The same for Sodom and Gomorrah.
All people following the lineage of Adam and Eve are corrupted by the stain from our parents. This even includes babies, even though they have never sinned personally. This means God is still just if he takes a baby's life, and babies do die often. And, these babies, though their bodies die, are entrusted to the great mercy of God, because it was no true fault of theirs that their ancestors sinned. Christians believe that all babies who die go immediately to the mercy and presence of God. ("Let the little children come unto me.")

But, when a man kills another man through murder, he is not exacting God's justice. He is taking what is not his own. This is why it is wrong for a man to kill out of malice or cruelty. [Fighting in a just war and self-defense are a different circumstance.]

First of all, those were all judgments that followed many years of God sending His prophets and messengers to tell people to repent from their wicked ways to no avail.
The first 9 plagues in Egypt were a sign of God's mercy towards Pharaoh's rebellion, otherwise He could have killed the firstborn as the first plague and be completely justified in doing so.
Lastly, God tells man not to kill b/c unlike man, He provided life in the first place and He is also able to resurrect that same life. Humans cannot do that.

True, God can kill but only God is able to give and raise life and though his works seem evil, the evil is good somehow by reason in the utter final end of all, God is there the savior of all where all fail to provide that good to everysingle identity ever existed, he is the one that is able to do that and therefore the perpetual beloved spark of life commanded.
How do we teach our kids? Do we not heap on them punishments, especially first childeren of inexperienced parents with good intent? Maybe god is like us do you ever think, and learns as he lives.

God has a right to judge His Creation.
When God did take life, as in the above examples, these people were completely evil.

Man kills, God "ushers in." God ushers into their eternal glory those whom time is up on this Earth. Man kills others, with no eternal perspective or knowledge of that persons "time to die." Killing is human, Ushering is Godly. And you can take that to the bank!

The first commandment was altered to say thou shall not kill. The original commandment was thou shall not murder. Killing in self defense or warfare ain't the same thing to the King of Kings.

There was fair warning and those that chose to ignore him brought it upon theirselves. Why did he have to bring the flood, because people were going out of control and had he seen any good in them he saved them. I believe there were more people that survived that flood beyond those on Noah's Ark. Moses warned the Egyptians, they did not listen.. and yet he warned them again and they still refused... then he even told them to place a red mark on your door or else, and so be it.

We are not completely holy and perfect enough to have a right to kill people. God killed people because he was just.
Punishment for sin: Death.
Everyone has sinned. Everyone deserves hell. Jesus came to die for that sin. People just don't accept it.
You are you to judge the holy creator of the universe?
By whose standards is he a killer? Yours? Are you better than God?
It's not hypocritical.
WE, AS IMPERFECE HUMANS, SHOULDN'T KILL BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE A RIGHT TO DO IT.

Ah, but would you complain if all his followers did not kill because they were not God? Think about it...
