I had a very bad experience at a church. I was a new Christian and found this church that was SO on fire. THe Holy Spirit often moved there. After about 6 mo. going there, things changed. The pastor and his wife became very domineering. When people left the church, we were told not to talk to them. The pastors approached me and told me that they did not want me giving advice to people when they asked for it. Instead, they wanted me to immediately call them, and they would in turn contact the person who wanted advice.

In another situation, a friend of mine was out of town visiting old friends on New Year's Eve. We had a special service. When she returned they chastized her for not being there that night and told her she was suppose to be there every time the doors were open.

The pastors sermons began to change. For almost a month straight he talked only about how the pastor is the head of the church and everyone should submit to their authority. If someone were to stand up and give a word from the HOly Spirit, the pastor or his wife would shame them in front of everyone by telling them that what they said wasn't correct. Sometimes they would even stop someone in the middle of testifying because they were "taking too long."

After about 4 mo. of this, a large group of people just left. I had a lot of good friends at that church, but they were told not to talk to any of us.

I was severly hurt. It took all of us that left over a year of healing and some still have not found healing. The pastor and his wife eventually sent me a letter apologizing for what they did and invited me back to the church. I never went, but I have managed to forgive them. They got onto the wrong track and it was very sad to see. But, they are human, and we all make mistakes. I just hope they learned from this.

No. But I have heard it said that the devil sits in the front row. And as a former mental health therapist I can tell you that some of the Churches that make it a point to attract children do so because the pastors are pedophiles, or because pedophiles are attracted to be pastors there.(not all, just some) They are not all in the Roman Church folks. Know where your children are and what is happening there.

My brother-in-law's pastor did not call my mother-in-law when D admitted that he was suicidal and didn't care if he took everyone out with him when he did it. The pastor just told him to pray and in fact, told him that if he weren't so weak, he wouldn't be suicidal or depressed. As a direct result, D committed a large act of arson trying to kill himself and barely survived. Luckily, everyone else got out alright and D is currently receiving help. However, the arson would have been avoided entirely if the pastor had told either his mother, grandmother, SOMEONE in the family.

When I was 16 a youth minister was sexually abusing my friend who was also in our youth group. Paternity test confirmed.

Oh, yes. He yelled at me in public because he didn't like the letters I was sending him asking that liturgical and Church law be observed at the parish. He also told me to stop sending the letters, even though I have every right to do so under Church law. I eventually stopping going to Mass at that parish because of his disrespectful attitude toward the laity and because I didn't like all the changes he was making.

Yes - as a child in China, I asked if there was any Chinese people in Heaven and was told there was indeed none - BECAUSE THEY REFUSED TO ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST. That scared the crap out of me as a kid. Thanks for the terroristic memories....
Also, while attending parochial school, I was beaten often by nuns with rulers, and another trick they had was making us kneel in the corner, arms outstretched like Christ on the cross, holding a Bible in each hand. When you dropped it - WHAM!

Yeah, Ive been through plenty of abuse at the hands of priests and nuns.
