I know what they are all about, I am just curious as to what people think about them. Good or bad, straight or gay. Godly or satanic.

"i wonder what thoae athiest boneheads think of thier science now?" Quote from a member of Yahoo! Answers.

Ignoring the obvious poor spelling and grammar, does it strike anyone else as exceedingly funny that someone sitting at a computer (created by...OMG Science!!) and surfing the internet, and using electricity would write that?

Why is there such vicious animosity from Fundies regarding science and technology? Science and technology they don't seem to mind when it's making their lives easier, or saving those lives, I might add.

I know there are many religious people who try to come to terms with both science and faith, to varying degrees of success, so I'm not attacking religion here. I seriously don't understand how attacking science proves any religion is right, or how it would sway anyone, particularly when those doing the attacking, are being so hypocritcal.

So my question : Why does science and rational thought have to be the enemy?

Had to phrase this for those who don't bother to read the full question.
The religion-in-school debate has alwas been about whether religious fundamentalists have the right to force their beliefs on the children of non-religious parents. Richard Dawkins, in his new book The God Delusion, suggests that just keeping religion out of schools isn't enough. There are kids who grow up believing that the universe is 6000 years old and that all scientists who say otherwise are lying. Some of these kids may be running the country someday (one of them is right now).
At what point does this indocrination become a form of child abuse? These parents raise their children with a set of beliefs about the world that actually leave them intellectually crippled for life.
Now, I agree with Dawkins that if the only way to end this cycle of fundamentalist indoctrination is with a Chinese-style authoritarian regime, then the cure is worse than the disease. I'm just saying, it's worth some thought.

I'd gladly walk across the desert
With no shoes upon my feet
To share with you the last bite
Of bread i had to eat
I would swim out to save you
In your sea of broken dreams
When all your hopes are sinkin'
Let me show you what love means

(chorus)

Love can build a bridge
Between your heart and mine
Love can build a bridge
Don't you think it's time?
Don't you think it's time?

I would whisper love so loudly

Every heart could understand
That love and only love
Can join the tribes of man
I would give my heart's desire
So that you might see
The first step is to realize
That it all begins with you and me

(repeat chorus)

When we stand together
It's our finest hour
We can do anything, anything
Keep believin' in the power

(repeat chorus)

Love and only love
Love and only love

Have faith in Allah and His messenger, and strive in His way with your wealth and your lives. That is for your own good, for He will forgive you for your transgressions and admit you into graceful moments in the Gardens of bliss where rivers run through. That indeed is the greatest triumph. Deliver the glad tidings to the believers that Allah will bestow yet another blessing upon them, His succor and a speedy victory.

I'm 100% sure ,because the Bible says so.".... yes that's a real quote.

What does everybody else think about Christianity? I used to be a christian but am now an athiest. I changed my religion because as a grew older it started to seem more and more that most christians are hypocrites. For example, the bible says that god will decide who goes to heaven and hell but there are so many christians that think they can make that decision themselves. I've had people tell me that I'm going to hell just for being an athiest. I want to know what other people think about this religion.

An acquantance of mine, who is also a Minister of the born again christians, said that Natural Disasters, plagues, diseases and terrible things like genocide are actually a good thing because it increases one's faith in God. He said for example, that according to the Washington Post, 80% of survivors of Hurricane Katrina said that their faith was stronger than ever.

These people prayed for deliverance of these horrible attrocities, and God turns a deaf ear to them. Yet their faith is enhances. I'm missing the logic in this. Can you explain?

Since they never got "saved" ..doesn't that mean the go to "hell"..?
Or does "God" let them go to "heaven" ? What does the Bible say about this?
