What does everybody else think about Christianity? I used to be a christian but am now an athiest. I changed my religion because as a grew older it started to seem more and more that most christians are hypocrites. For example, the bible says that god will decide who goes to heaven and hell but there are so many christians that think they can make that decision themselves. I've had people tell me that I'm going to hell just for being an athiest. I want to know what other people think about this religion.

Hypocritical christians isn't the only reason I became an athiest. To me, God seems like a fairytale that parents tell their children to comfort them when they have a nightmare. God is just an idea made up to bring people comfort. People need God to feet that they are important in some way. They need God so that they feel like there life actually has meaning to it, because a life without meaning isn't really worth living. When you think about it, compared to the size of the whole universe, human existence doesn't really matter. With how big the universe is, it doesn't matter if humans existed or not, it wouldn't make a difference. It doesn't matter how important a person is on the Earth that we live on. So, somebody came up with the idea of God to trick themselves into thinking that there life really does have meaning, even though the existence of the whole human race is pointless. God is just a lie designed to give humans a false sense of comfort.

Atheism is one of the better religions, because you arrive at your own conclusions.

It's all about you a person make of it. Yes today many Christians put people down but that's NOT what we are suppose to do. You can't FORCE someone to believe in God...all we can do is share and help them if they what to be a Christian. Many people do believe THEY can judge people...I've gotten to the point where I don't care. If someone thinks they are better than me, then that's on them because in the end God will judge us...not a priest, pastor, preacher, choir member, usher, deacon, whatever. If that's the case I'm pretty sure it would be hell on earth if humans could decide. But it's your live and God gave us free will to do what we want and decide. If you want to be an Atheist, that's on you. All I can say is that according to MY religion that's not good but you can ask God to forgive you. I can't burn you or stone you for that.

I was raised in a Lutheran family from infant baptism, I have little use for religion but that does not limit my belief in God. I am what my philosophy of religion prof called a deist and reverent agnostic.I was an atheist for about 2 days a long time ago, but can in the light of the things I've witnessed in my 48 years deny the existence of a benevolent and loving diety.
To Jesus I concede the actions of an enlightened and tremendous man, but I believe the message he was trying to get acrossed to people is that we are ALL children of God and somehow the meaning got mashed in the mix of theology over the last two milennia.

The word Christian to me is what you make of it. To me it means you believe in Christ and a God which one is up to you. Everyone has there own opinion about religion. You are obviously not done making up your mine about it. As am I. I was born into the Catholic religion but because of divorce did not receive catichism - or however it is spelled. I went to various churches as a youth and then was introduced to Jehovah's Witnesess. I do not totally believe the same things as any of them. I have made my own decisions about "The Truth" as they all call it. If so many peolple tell me about the truth how can they all be right?
Make up your own mind. God will listen to you when you need him. You do not need anyone to tell you how to pray or when to pray. A simple act of asking for help will reward you with answers untold. Believe in yourself. You will not fail. The answers will be there. Much soul searching only comes to heartache. The truth is - within you. You get to decide what religioius beliefs are best for you. He will guide you without you knowing. Do you remember "The Footprints" read it again. He is always there you just do not see him! According to the Bible, hell is the grave. What is worse than dying and being separated from everything and everyone you love. Do not fear death. It is only a passing. Make a point to live a good life. Be kind to people and animals. Good Luck in your quest.

I'm an athiest because so many bad things have happened to me and indeed the world, that there is no justification for there to be one man in control of it (especially if he's meant to be loving etc).
I just think if someone wishes to believe in something that has no definite proof, then go ahead, it's not (directly) hurting anyone. I just hate it when a small handful of extreme Christians take the Bible out of context and use it to do bad things themselves. AND I hate it when atheist's get the pee taking out of them (not literally) just because they don't 'believe'.
Oh, and I hate it when other black people assume I'm a Christian because I too is black.

No one of The True Christian Faith would ever turn against God as an enemy of His Word and Will as are the athiests. Once of The Truth always of The Truth. You never knew The Truth. But you still have the chance... up to your last mortal breath...

A-T-H-E-I-S-M (spelled correctly) is not something that is stumbled on in the dark or in a blinding flash. To achieve rationality is a developmental process that has to overcome the mindless programming that has been shoved at you since childhood. I'm amazed that I started asking the right questions when I was eleven and even more amazed that I was able to take the "because" answers of religion with a jaundiced eye at such a young age. Still it took three more years before I called myself an agnostic and three hard years more before being able to call myself an Atheist. Happy about it? Sometimes I envy delusionalists who think they are going to end up in some cosmic Disneyland when they die, instead of the void on non-existence, but in the end, I'm happy I do not live in the delusional haze that seems to keep them anesthetized to reality. Atheism is not a religion, it is the antithesis of religion.

Hi Stoner, sorry to hear that you have been put off but really is it God`s fault, after all you surely know that He cares for you regardless of what others may say and it is hardly His fault that the hypocritical actions and words of super Christians have harmed you.
People will hurt and confound you but God is always ready to welcome you back and this separation is hurting both you and God, it is unfair on both of You.
Not all Christians who say,Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom, but thieves and prostitutes are getting there.
Christians have no right whatsoever to state who is or is not going to Heaven or Hell, this is just pride.

God didn't create churches... people did. I believe in God but there are things in the bible I do not believe. Everyone has to find whats right for themselves, but it is important to believe in something. I agree that there are a lot of christians who think just because they go to church every sunday that they will go to heaven, and they then judge other people for not believing or living their lives differently. No one has the right to judge, only God. Do whats right for you, but be open to learn and grow. Be educated.

Nothing is wrong with the Religion since the TRUE TEST is for a Believer to follow all the doctrines and teachings of Yeshua Messiah/ Jesus the Christ [PBUH] in striving to become 'Christ-like' or be considered a TRUE 'Christian' in the purest sense of the word.
However, as you have already noted, many have FAILED MISERABLY in such a Test and yet they continue to SHAMELESSLY call themselves 'Christians.'
You have merely been FOOLED and DISSUADED by such HYPOCRITES out there that are a dime a dozen and can be found in every nook and cranny.
And perhaps you may still want to reconsider your position if you desire to remain as a Believer...
Peace be with you.
