the theory that I had for my personal (i'm a maximum cancers survivor who has somewhat planned my personal funeral out in strengthen--fortuitously those plans do not look needed as we talk) replaced into to make it a social gathering of my existence. a similar pastor who oversaw my wedding ceremony is a uncommon guy: as long as recognize is shown for the non secular, he has no problem seeing to the purposes of disbelievers. even as each and each and every human being in attendance at my wedding ceremony is established with i'm an Atheist, I nonetheless needed the pastor to lead a prayer for some thing of my kinfolk--virtually all of which carry a Christian denomination. He did it o.k.: "The bride and groom have requested a second of prayer should you ought to opt for to take section..." and the prompt went on. I spoke with him about overseeing my funeral, and having a similar type of interest. He agreed, and had a number of techniques for making that ensue. this way any prayers suggested for me were with techniques from the alternative of those providing the prayer. The funeral itself ought to in nice condition me for who i replaced into, yet enable the survivors to be who they're and take care of issues of their personal way.

Most of us have funerals long before our bones have a chance to rot. Atheists die just like non-atheists do. Our end is just as certain as yours. Funerals are for the living survivors, not the dead.

It has been my opinion that funerals are not really for the deceased but for the living who have to go on without their loved one. But then again to me I think a funeral should be a joyous celebration of the life that was lived not a sad event that they have become.

Everyone has the right to grieve. What would be interesting is what would be said at an Atheist's funeral and how the family would cope with the loss. Especially if the deceased was young.

Hmm... If you watch people cry at Christian funerals, you'll see an example of how weak their faith in an afterlife really is.
Bones, ashes, that's all that are left of us. Except for the memories of those who loved us. And the funerals are, in truth, for the survivors. At least atheists know why we're crying.

Regardless of what atheists or believers think or believe, Reality is what it is. I am perplexed when I see questions that suggest that by adopting a belief system, it somehow changes Reality. Just because a terrorist is convinced that he'll be rewarded for killing kids on a bus doesn't change Reality. Somehow, we humans make our beliefs a 'virtual reality' and think that somehow Reality is different for each of us, based on our beliefs. How does that happen??

Yes, it's funny to pay respect to a decent person.
You're an ***. And I'm not one to insult here all that often. But you... are an ***.
(I wonder why it is that it's always the religious types that seem to have the least amount of decency, empathy, and love for their fellow man. You've done more with this post to prove your religion is bogus, than I've done in all the months I've been here. Congratulations.)

We are all worm-poop in the end. Many of us have a party thrown in our honor to celebrate the life we had and the only thing that truly survives death, if only for a little while, memories.

Funerals should involve both grief, and also a celebration of life. You can celebrate anybody's life, Christian, Jewish, Athiest, etc.
