Agnostics hedge their bets by not committing to either side. They have doubts but still keep one foot on the superstitious side of the fence. Atheism is not something that is stumbled on in the dark or in a blinding flash. To achieve rationality is a developmental process that has to overcome the mindless programming that has been shoved at you since childhood. I'm amazed that I started asking the right questions when I was eleven and even more amazed that I was able to take the "because" answers of religion with a jaundiced eye at such a young age. Still it took three more years before I called myself an agnostic and three hard years more before being able to call myself an Atheist. Happy about it? Sometimes I envy delusionalists who think they are going to end up in some cosmic Disneyland when they die, instead of the void on non-existence, but in the end, I'm happy I do not live in the delusional haze that seems to keep them anesthetized to reality.

Agnostics "sit on the fence" as it were. They basically will hold judgement. Strictly speaking on the "weak" atheist definition, agnostics are atheists since they lack the belief in god. Some find god more "probable" though, so they're more of agnostic theists.
So basically:
Agnostic Theist - There is no proof one way or the other, but in my gut, I'll go with "probably".
"De facto" Agnostic - There is no proof one way or the other, and my gut can't decide.
Agnostic Atheist - There is no proof one way or the other, but in my gut, I'll go with "probably not".
"Weak" Atheist - I do not believe in the existence of god.
"Strong" Atheist - I actively believe there is no god.
Note that these correspond to Dawkins religiosity scale of 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7, respectively.

Atheists believe there is no God. Agnostics say they don't know. I usually call myself an atheist as I feel sure there is no God, but then again I also think that as a human being I might err, so I am also a bit agnostic.

There are 2 questions. a million. do you recognize no remember if or no longer there's a god/do you think of it somewhat is properly-known no remember if or no longer there's a god? in case you answer no, you're an agnostic. in case you answer definite, you at the instant are not an agnostic. 2. Do you think in a god? in case you answer no, you're an atheist. in case you answer definite, you're a theist. those 2 questions provide you 4 consequences - agnostic atheist, agnostic theist, "gnostic" atheist and "gnostic" theist. when you consider that agnosticism is a philosophy of understanding, it would not come to a determination the question of theory. All agnostics are, subsequently, the two atheists or theists.

Agnostics say they don't know whether there is a God or not.
Weak or soft atheists say they don't believe there is a God.
Strong or hard atheists make the more positive statement that they believe that there is NO God.

Atheists believe there is no God. Agnostics will not say there is no God, merely that whatever is behind the universe is not represented in any of the organized religions we have out there.

The atheists BELIEVE and SURE that there is no god,
while the agnostics argue that it's impossible to know whether god exists or not.
