I'm going to my girlfriend's company holiday party. I've never met anybody there so I don't want to talk to people for more than 5 minutes at time.

Anybody know some effective yet polite ways to excuse myself from conversations?

Your pee is rank, you stool is disgusting and wipe your blood off of the toilet seat. I am so disgusted right now. Please be especially clean when there is only two toilets for the entire building. I just don't understand why some women do not clean up after themselves. I thank the ones who do.

those out, at work, wherever. I mark "Other", because I my ancestors came from Italy, so I feel that I am an Italian-American. True, I am white, but I mark other just as my protest to certain groups like blacks wanting to be called African-Americans. I have no problem with calling a black person an African-American, just as long as he or she would call me an Italian-American or a European American. Just as that persons ancestors came from Africa (albeit against their will, which wasn't right) my ancestors also came to America to seek a better life for themselves and future generations. If things were so great in Italy, they would've stayed. Anyway, do you see where I'm going with this? Are their any other white people out there who mark "Other" as race when filling this kinda form out?

Why is it acceptable for you to be racist?
Why is it ok for other people to be proud of their race, but not white people?
I so don't like white supremecist or their views, but, I am tired of hearing and seeing people denigrating Caucasian people on the radio and on the news.
Shouldn't everyone be held accountable for hate speech? Can we really pick and choose who can make racially biased comments based on the colour of their skin?

My boyfriend is an Accountant and his firm is having a formal holiday party at a hotel in a downtown area.

I know formal typically means wearing a dress. My question is.. is a dress an only option? What colors are appropriate? It is winter time, so should the dress be long or short??

I just had to. She has been rude to me all morning. Anyone else do stupid stuff like this? I know it's juvenile but (1) she deserved it (2) it made me feel a little bit better watching her eat her booger-ridden food.

I am going to a party being held by my college choir director, and I feel obligated to bring a small host/hostess gift. The only problem is that I'm not 21 and so I can't buy (and probably shouldn't bring) a bottle of wine as a gift.

What are some non-alcoholic gift ideas? Thank you.

when a person wont come to you or tell you the problem they have with you. Instead they do passive aggressive things to get your attention in the most obvious ways. Would a person like this really have an issue or is it just a game to them you think?

My mom works at the school, and when I go to P.E I drop my stuff of in her room. My teachers see me go in her room and they think I get special treatment. ( Which I do not) When I was in the libary with my class and teacher, and I went over to sit own the couch to read, and she called me over to tell mme that I could not sit over there, because I did not ask. ( and she say if I did ask she stills would not let me go over there.) Anyway then she called me over to talk to me and she said the whole six grade team has been talking about you, and they have put up with long enough you can not keep going to your mom's class every single day. For a second, I thought she was going to say something but no she went there. Other teachers have me questioning me in front of the class asking me where I was when I went to the bathroom. ( and they see me go to the bathroom anyway.) Yes I am black and I go to a white school what should I do? Please anwser this question.Email me at morgan199611@yahoo. *

Found out recently that a U.S.A. waiter or waitresses only make half of minimum wage and that is why tips are so important to them. In general the going rate for a tip in the U.S.A is 15-20% which is the same as in Canada yet our service people get paid minimum wage. Do you think American culture has affected Canada through movies and tv that has makes us tip equal amount except for the fact that our service people are paid a better wage. Knowing this will you continue to tip in Canada the 15-20?

graduation class but shows up herself? The reunion was for 1973, 1974, 1975. All years had representatives and there was a big turn out. But 1974 she was in charge of she contacted nobody. Only eight from 1974 showed up and they were invited by the 1973 representative. Why would she volunteer for something when she had no intention of fulfilling the obligation?

-Teenagers today are weird and annoying. Some of them are no manners at all, and there fashion are annoying and disgusting. And those "EMO" term are stupid as a **** that has NO POINT at all. Those dress, those piercing, those leggings those thick eyeliners, and blah blah.... half of the world is covered by them.
-People have NO ORIGINALITY AT ALL! since that they don't make there own stories. Allot of singers just revive and revive of old GOOD songs! And they make this GOOD songs HORRIBLE! The movies, allot of them are just remake, can't they make there own?
-Bands today are ***, not like BEFORE! Their sounds are annoying and makes my(not me) ear bleed! They don't have voice anyway!

In all these three, these opinions are NOT mine okay! So don't blow and put some F*CK into me, that oh your blah blah...just want to know your opinion!

BTW i disagree with those comments! i just copy this

I have always given my supervisor a Christmas gift. If I buy it, I usually spend about $25. If I paint him something (I am a hobby artist) it would probably be worth more than that. I also usually give my hairdresser $25 - $50 cash each year. Coincidentally, these two are now married to each other.

Should I give them separate gifts, or should I give them one gift of higher value? I was thinking maybe a $50 gift card to a restaurant I know they like.

(Please no comments on the general idea of gift cards...I know some people hate them in principle. I am really only interested in answers to the combined/separate question.)

I run into this a lot. I will be speaking with someone, and they will repeatedly use the wrong word for something while they speak. Usually it's two words which sound a lot alike. For example, I was talking to a woman once and she was telling me that balaclava (yes, the head covering of choice for bank robbers) is one of her favorite desserts, and that she likes to go to Greek or Middle Eastern restaurants which serve it. Obviously, she was talking about baklava, the layered pastry. She kept going on about it after she found out my mother knows how to make it.

In trying to help her get the right word, I kept repeating "baklava" back to her, each time more slowly, but she just wasn't getting the signal. In all honesty, my main concern was that she learn the correct word because the next person to hear her mistake might make fun and hurt her feelings.

What is your gentle technique for dealing with similar situations? I don't want to sound like a know-it-all, but I want to help.

My hubby and I were in a restaurant the other day and there was this kid, maybe 5-6 years old that kept running in the aisle and the parents did nothing about it. Once when he went by, I told my hubby that I was tempted to stick my foot out and trip him. He laughed and said that would teach him a lesson. Is tripping a small bratty kid while you're trying to enjoy your meal really a bad thing to do?

Most of the world does not tip. For example a waitress is paid an hourly wage just like the cook. Why in the states do you feel the requirement to tip? It seems like nonsense.

So if a waitress earns her salary by tips rather than a set wage, in theory she should do better customer service in order to earn more, just like a commission. But if this theory is true, then shouldn't we tip the cook too? So that way the cook will do his or her best to make the food perfectly and sanitary...? Shouldn't we tip the policemen to protect our neighborhoods better at night? Shouldn't we tip our teachers so they help our children learn more?

The whole tipping idea seems ridiculous. Why not just pay people a standard wage? If the taxi driver doesn't do something right, then you can call and complain to the taxi company. Why should I have to tip him for just doing his job?

I overheard my husband and one of his friends talking on the phone. I couldn't hear what my husband's friend was saying, but based on what my husband was saying I could tell how the conversation was going. My husband's friend was talking about some girl he is taking on date or something. Then I heard my husband say "Well tell her you'll pay for dinner and she can pay for the movie". Is it me or is that just plain cheap? Sad thing is, when I met my husband he wasn't financially able to take me anywhere so we rarely went on dates. Three years later that still bothers me, so when I heard him telling his friend that I thought ... what a cheap ***.

His friend is 38 years old, single, no kids, without a woman and he wonders why.
