where feeding hungry babies offends some Christians and even some Atheists, I hear?

The main reason is that I personally feel that Americans are uneducated about the health benefits and positive bonding for breastfeeding. I think we're starting to get there, but women are still being sent home from the hospital with tons of formula with little emphasis on nursing. Like someone else said, breastfeeding in public is an artform that needs to be mastered. If done the right way, you have no clue if the baby is snuggling in Mama's arms or nursing! In my case I learned this skill pretty quickly and it was very natural to feed a hungry baby whenever he needed to nurse. And I always took the time to explain and educate anyone who questioned me in a polite and positive manner.

I don't know about Atheists having a problem? Kind of odd thing to say. But I do know some Christians, though beliefs in faith have nothing to do with it, really. I don't get it why so many have such ignorant opinions about breastfeeding in general or in public. Doesn't make any since, you'd think it was a debate about abortion the way some people act toward breastfeeding women. Crazy.

i'm interior the united kingdom and breatfeeding right this is thoroughly nicely-known. a lot of eating places and cafes have signs and warning signs asserting "you're welcome to breastfeed right here" and that i've got fed my infants everywhere - benches in a hectic intense highway, eating places, college gate, everywhere, each time. no one takes any observe or cares. while used to feed slightly one, a breast isn't a sexual factor. There are lots greater disapproving stares while a mom bottlefeeds her toddler, because of the fact it shows she isn't a being concerned mom on the grounds that breast is much better for her toddler's well-being. and that i'm giggling at each and all the solutions asserting "it is high-quality as long as she does it under a blanket." Blanket?!? I easily have in no way used a blanket! I easily have in no way seen every physique use a blanket while breastfeeding. you only hitch up your appropriate and plug the toddler in. Who desires to hold a blanket around with all of the different toddler paraphernalia. i think of people nonetheless have slightly bit a puritan complicated, subsequently the clarification this question pops up on R&S. As further evidence i could cite the interest "titbit". Over right here, the place the interest originated, it extremely is "titbit". while it made it around the pond it have been given replaced to "tidbit" because of the fact it became theory that American nerves and sensibilities could no longer cope with a observe containing "tit." Hilarious.

Because American's are overly uptight about the human body. Breasts are considered a sexual object and not a natural thing.

I will say that there are some women who need to learn the art of public breast feeding -- there is no reason what so ever to expose you're entire breast in public. As long as it is done with modesty I see absolutely nothing wrong with it -- but if you feel the need to whip the nip out in full view of everyone then I think you have issues.

I don't think people are ignorant because it makes them feel funny if someone is breastfeeding in public.

I think it is a private thing as well and that some women could be a bit more demure. I understand the baby needs to eat, but it doesn't have to be in the middle of a restaurant facing the crowd. It is a natural thing but not something I would do out in the open unless I had no choice.

It's not good manners to change your baby's diaper out in the middle of a crowd (although many women have no problem doing so) and I feel the same way about breast feeding. I have changed my son's diaper in public out of necessity, but always preferred finding a hidden spot to do so. This is for his dignity (why would I want strangers to see his dirty butt sticking out) and to be considerate because I'm sure no one wants to see or smell that if they don't have to.

Breastfeeding in public does make some people uncomfortable as it's not standard practice here in America. Just like nude beaches are more accepted overseas. I much prefer modesty and am turned off by women who let it all hang out or who are deliberately putting it in your face.

Not for me.

It doesn't offend me as a Christian, but, as a woman, it does seem inappropriate to expose myself in front of everyone!!! If I was going somewhere with my newborn, I'd pack a bottle, or at least go out to the car. I see it as a very private thing between mother and child and it should be kept that way. (Not to mention you have some sickos who stare at you the whole time!!! Weirdos!!!)

some australians are uptight about public breast feeding so I think you are just generalizing your feelings.
