Okay, so here's the deal. My dad is married to a woman who has two young children. (One his, one not, if it matters.) I am not close to his wife at all, am never invited over to their place to get to know the kids, etc. I am operating on a VERY tight budget this Christmas season and so here is the question: If I buy something for my dad (which of course I would like to do), am I obligated to buy something for the wife and children that I don't even really know? While I don't really WANT to spend the money, there will be a big gift-exchange with all the family, aunts, uncles, etc. If I don't bring a gift for the heathens, erm, kids, I'll look bad, right?? I'm really stressing, because I have very little money to spend and I don't want to spend it on people I don't even really know!

What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance for your input. :-)

My daughter is 11 and has a ton of friends. The thing is , the friends moms always ask me to babysit, or ask if their kids can come over while they go out, or the kids will ask if they can come over because their moms are going out ,etc.

Im not really friends with these moms, they are just acquantances because our kids hang around together. I never ask if they can babysit my child, so thats why I don't understand why they ask me to babysit theirs all the time. Just seems a little forward to me.

does it depend on the person that is giving it to you or in general should most people just give you food in something that you should be able to keep?

Our office always has a Christmas potluck every year. The company provides the meat (usually turkey and ham), and the employees are responsible for bringing the sides, desserts and beverages. However, our department always has a Christmas party and it is usually at someone's house. This year we are going to have it at a restaurant, but we have to pay for our own food. Maybe I'm wrong for feeling this way, but I feel the company should pay for the food or drinks (by allowing my supervisor to expense the tab). I almost feel guilty for thinking this way, but what's the point of having a department Christmas party? We always do the office party every year, and besides, I see the people in my department every day.

Do you think I am being selfish or am I missing the point of having a department Christmas party? Just FYI, I am not cheap and I am definitely not the type of person who expects something for nothing. But I'd rather be doing something else if I have to pay for myself.

How do you handle the call?
Do you realize that hanging up on them only causes them to want to call you back again?
Is it hard to be polite to someone that is just doing their job?

Hi I am 19 years old, in college. Should I get Christmas presents for my
friends in High School? I only see them about once a month, or less, and
talk to them maybe 2 times a week. They did not give me any birthday
presents or cards two months ago, but they pester me for birthday presents.
My mom suggested only to give presents to someone who gave me a Christmas
present. But only 2 of my friends gave me Christmas and birthday presents
last year. And before they gave me none. We do live in the same town, so
giving them presents would not be a problem. I really care about my
friends, and I want to at least give them cards.

I was with a new boyfriend and we were in K-Mart, I bent down so he wouldn't see and then wiped my nose on a children's shirt.
He later said if I would've told him what I did, he would have dropped to one knee and proposed on the spot.

My daughter will be 6 months old on Christmas and my mother in law bought her about eleven toys and there is really no point in us getting her anything. She is buying our son who is five a Wii and tons of other things. It made me upset but I thought they are their only grandkids and I can’t really say anything if they want to get it for them. But I would like to have gotten them something. At thanksgiving my mother in law asked what my husband wanted for Christmas. I told here I was getting him a nice watch. He has a watch but I wanted to get him something that he can wear to church, something really nice. Well I went looking and my mother in law went with me and I couldn’t find any thing at the store we went to. Well she just called me up saying she bought him this nice watch and not to worry about getting him it. Well when I got off the phone I started crying because I feel she is being a glory hog. What do you think?

The other day I saw 4 people working from one booth and they stopped and confronted almost every person who walked within 20 feet of their booth. It makes me want to avoid shopping at the mall. Of course I want to avoid that anyway, but do you know what I'm talking about or is it just me?

My professor's father was sick and has now passed away. She has been going to California to see him and now to make the funeral arrangements. She's missed many weeks of class because of this. However, she has been absolutely wonderful, and e-mails our class with all sorts of assignments, and has really kept track of what's going on here. I am really appreciative (as we are just a gen-ed class), and also really sorry for her loss. I'd like to give her a sympathy card, but it is close to finals as well and I don't want it to look like I'm trying to kiss up to get a good grade. I usually don't give cards or gifts to professors for this reason.

What do you think? In this case would a sympathy card or a thank you note be appropriate, or should I just say my thoughts to her in person?

Sometimes in my everyday environment I see friends of friends that I recognize from having seen pictures of them online, but whom I have never actually met. I find it likely that these people might recognize me too. Should I pass by without saying hello? Would it seem too weird to introduce myself?

On the pta minutes it is noted incorrectly that I will be purchasing soup I actually spoke to the minutes sec and told her that I was not. Also last month we held a table top sale it went ok but we decided to change the name to indoor boot sale as again according to this person it sounds much classier.I personally don't think so boot sales make me think of other peoples un wanted items. There really was no need for her to write this comment.but she seems to insist on putting her own little comments in I think it is wrong of her to do so.

I eat ranch dressing with a lot of foods, especially as a dipping sauce. Whenever I order a salad I usually have to ask for an extra side of dressing because they never give you enough. Do you feel there should be a charge for the extra side of dipping sauces, or should it be free?

First off, he is living off of my roommate. I know this, because my ex lived off of me too and I finally got rid of him not too long ago. My roommate buys her bf food, entertainment, and must have spent over $1000 buying him new hockey gear. He was diagnosed with diabetes not too long ago, and moved in with us as a result. Now that he is better, and his insulin is down, he is fully functional to get a job, but he doesn't. He just stays at home, does the occasional chores (he does most of it since he is at home), and spends the rest of his time making youtube videos, watching tv, playing with his transformer toys (yes, my roommate even bought him transformer toys) or surfing the internet. He sleeps till noon most of the time and stays up late, watching tv loudly, making it hard for me to sleep. He also eats my food! I can't understand why, when my roomie buys a bunch of food for the both of them. My roommate is a good person, but her bf is lazy and annoying...he's 29 yrs old btw.
