I eat ranch dressing with a lot of foods, especially as a dipping sauce. Whenever I order a salad I usually have to ask for an extra side of dressing because they never give you enough. Do you feel there should be a charge for the extra side of dipping sauces, or should it be free?

I also believe it should be free, but at the same time it shouldn't. I worked in the restaurant business for years. Think about the overall picture. If every customer were to ask for sides and they were given for free, imagine how much of that product that the restaurant buys is being handed out for free. With that overall picture, the restaurant would end up losing money.

But yes, it does suck have to pay $1 or whatever it is for a tablespoon of sour cream, but I guess that's how business goes!

Resturaunts have a high overhead. Do you think they get the ranch dressing for free? The cost you pay reflects the very carefully determined price of what they have to pay - the staff, the insurance, the rent, the cost of food, napkins, cleaning, dishes, everything. It is all reflected in the final price you see on the menu, so wether you have an extra line item on the bill for the extra side, or the price of the original salad goes up to reflect the possibility that some customers may want extra, you will still pay for it so really its a moot point.

It definitely should be free. If I got charged for a side of ranch I would never go back. Meals at restaurants are expensive enough as it is.

I think you should pay a small amount for it.....if they give extra's to a lot of customers then it adds up and they lose money. They have to buy more of the sauces because they are using more if it, so they have to incur the cost so it should be passed on to the customer. I am not in the restaurant industry by the way, but would fully expect to pay extra if I ask for more.

At a fast-food restaurant, sometimes it will be free and sometimes they will charge for things like that. At a sit-down restaurant, I would expect it to be free. I think it should be free everywhere (although I'm sure they would build it into the costs of the other food.)

An extra side of dressing should be free.

I think it depends on how much you are asking for. Just a little bit should be free. But if you are taking enough to put over a whole other salad, you should have to pay for it.

Free... I hate to see food outlets charge ridiculus amount for sauces, after all, they made enough profit from serving you. They dont charge for knife and fork, so why should they charge for condiments?

Yes, I think it should be free, but these places like giving you as little as possible.
