I'll keep it short:

In the past, my husband and I have alternated Thanksgivings. One year with my family, next year with his, etc. Since this is our first holiday in our new house, we thought we would throw a nice, big Thanksigiving dinner.

The party includes around 20 guests, half being from my side and half from my husband's side.

My husband's side always does a Secret Santa gift giving for Christmas, and names are traditionally drawn at Thanksgiving. It's JUST that side of the family; they aren't very gung-ho about opening it up to my side of the family.

That's fine. I can respect that.

My question: They want to draw names at Thanksgiving, but my family will also be there. Should we ahead and draw the names, leaving out my side, or attempt to draw names in a different location, which may or may not be able to work out?

Ive currently been working on my job as a retail associate for 3 weeks and recently they've been hiring a lot of people...for thanksgiving all my family is going to another state and I will be here alone...is it appropriate to ask for 4 days vacation even though i just started... I mean there are a lot of people that can fill my position, but then again im asking time off when theyre going to be busy. Would it be okay if I just asked I mean if not its okay ? If so how do I ask ?

So many people say to give scented candles, I for one can't stand them! Scented candles are a thoughtless gift unless you know the person would want them. I don't like to go inside those stores that are full of scents, and I certainly don't want to put chemical aromas in my clean house. When I get a smelly candle or other 'fragrant' gift, I put it straight in the outside trash can. What a waste.

My brother's girlfriend doesnt eat this..and she doesnt eat that... Last year she filled her plate with beans ONLY and sat at the table with an empty plate after she had finished her beans.

Am I obligated to cook special foods just for her...?

I've been invited to a dinner party for Thanksgiving and the hosts insist that they have everything they need (from the Turkey to the wine, flowers and desserts). Etiquette and my good heart says I should still bring something. But I don't know what to bring. Any ideas?

I said to him as long as my boogers don't get on anyone, there's no harm in it!
He doesn't know that I also pick my belly button crust and toe jam from between my toes.
It's just that my nose is on my face so everyone sees it!
Who's right, me or him?

Hi everyone. Here's the problem: my wife is doing a MSc course at the University of Manchester. She's got many, many questions about a particular course so she sent way too many emails to the lecturer. The lecturer, after a while, got fed up with the number of emails and said he would not reply any more emails from her. I also work for the University and I was thinking: should I send him an email thanking him for the support and apologising for the trouble my wife gave him? I think it might be a good idea for him to know she is not alone and to avoid resentments towards her because he would know her husband (hello!) is a colleague. What do you think? Is it wise to do so? I wouldn't want him to be harsh or to keep resentments towards her for the rest of the course. He has not shown any so far. Anyway, could you give me your opinion? Should I send the email or not?
Cheers everyone!

I sometimes slip english words or propositions without realizing it. Of course, I didn't forget the language. But I'm so used to English, living in an English speaking country. That happens especially when I'm tired. Do you think that is embarassing or I should apologize for it?

This is one of my pet peeve's! I guess for alot of people, they substitute these others words because of a lack of education in they're background. I know I have a neighbor and last week he was outside with some friends, and I had my door open because it was nice. And settting in our living room I must have heard the MF words about 40 times in the course of an hour! I wanted so bad to go next door and ask him, is you name MF? Because he calls everything that! Not to mention the fact that he was talking real loud and obviously I did not like the fact that my 13 year old was hearing this lovely word used at nausim! Anyone else relate to this, or know a friend or neighbor like mine maybe?

Our neighbors moving in about 4months ago. They're renting. There's a man (about 30) and a woman (about 20) and they have a son (about 3).

We've had a few problems with them before. They like to do their washing (with a very loud washing machine) at about 4am. They drop bottles and cans into their rubbish bin at about the same time. Everything they do, it's as loud as possible.

A few months ago they decided to chop fire wood with an chainsaw at 6.30 on a weekend. I went over there and gave them a mouth full.

This morning my Mum was woken by them yelling, screaming and swearing at each other. She's heard the screaming and her crying. My Mum said that it's none of our business but I think it is because of the time of day and the volume.

We live in a very child friendly neighborhood so I believe their behavior is unappropriate. What do you think?

I run a small business. I am closed Sundays and Mondays. I am always at my store and only have part time help that comes in to help me in the afternoon. When reps call, I pretty much tell them any time between 11-5 will work for me Tues-Fri. I don't need a set appointment because I am always there. A few weeks ago I had a lady call to set up an appointment. I remember looking on the calendar to see what day it was. When I saw it was not a Monday I said fine. I thought it was the very end of Nov. Well tonight I checked my messages at my store and this rep called at 11 saying she was sitting in my parking lot and I was closed. She said that we had an appointment. I would not make an appointment on a Monday because it is the day I am closed, unless I looked at the wrong calendar month when scheduling with her. I feel terrible and have been looking forward to purchasing from this company. How do I apologize for missing the appt?

I felt really lame, i was going to say hi to her but then i got angry and was like WHATEVER, BTCH. Has this ever happened to you? Why do people act like this? Does this mean your a lame person?
