I'm more offended if someone lets the door shut in my face! by a man or a woman. Of course I can open a door by myself - most of the time - it's just common courtesy. changing a tire - I can do that too - but certainly not offended if someone offers to help - as long as they do it right - I've had a man not tighten the lug nuts tight enough, And of course I say thank-you for someone holding the door open and helping me out. Out on a date? I certainly think holding the door open for the woman is a nice gesture - but I'm 54 - and there have been times I've held the door open - or at least opened it on a date also, depends on who is carrying the left overs!

Hmmmmm, it depends.
As far as holding the door open, if I am struggling with a package or in need of assistance and a person of either gender holds the door open for me, I thank them with a smile. We all need to be courteous in this world and helping each other out is a good thing.
If I'm simply walking along, and obviously don't need help, I will nod or say thanks, but I don't really feel grateful ~ after all it's something I can do for myself, it's not like they really *helped* me. On the other hand, I'm not going to get offended about it, because who knows they could have brought up to do it, they could be doing it for a dare, whatever.
The ONLY time I would get offended is if the person in question makes and issue of it. I say thanks and walk on, if they want any more, bad luck.
As for changing a flat tyre, who does that without you asking them? Of course if I ask someone for assistance and they give it to me I say thankyou and don't get offended!!!
If I came out and found my nicely matched, perfectly balanced good quality tyres randomly 'changed' by some guy who expected thanks, then I am going to be more than offended, I am going to be on my mobile phone calling the cops.
But if I'm stranded with two broken arms and some passing nice person lends a hand, of course I'm not going to be 'offended', that would be ridiculous.
Cheers :-)

I am not offended at all. I can open a door for myself and I do know how to change a flat, but I would much rather prefer someone else does it for me (concerning the flat tire). I think it is a nice gesture when anyone holds the door.

Seriously, one dark and stormy night I was driving down the road when I heard the dreaded thup, thup, thup of a flat tire.
I pulled into a grocery store parking lot, got out the jack and the instruction book and was trying to figure out what to do when an 18 wheeler pulled up. A young man got out, walked past me, stopped.....we stared at each other......I said "Which part of the car is the frame?"....another short silence........I handed him the jack - he burst out laughing and then proceeded to change my tire. I thanked him profusely, he said "NO PROBLEM!" and we both went on our way. I am never offended, just grateful that there are still nice people in the world and I try to return the favour whenever I can to whoever I can, regardless of age, sex of colour!

No, but honestly, most of the time when someone holds the door for me, it's another female.
Never got a flat before, but if I was stranded by the road and some strange man pulled up, it would be kind of scary.

Of course I am not offended by a man being a gentleman.
I also hold doors open for people and though usually they walk through them as if they are entitled (without a smile or thank you), I feel good doing it. I always say thank you to anyone holding a door open for me.

no not offended, it is wonderful when a man opens the door for you, my 7 year old son opens the door for ladies! and he has never gotten less then a smile and a big thank you. as for changing a flat, I am grateful that i have the knowledge to do it, because I do travel allot by myself, however if there is a man willing to do it I always appreciate it!

Not unless the man obviously is doing it because he thinks I'm incapable or girly. Men like helping us out. It's how they're wired. I don't get offended - I get flattered.

I would kindly thank them for their courtesy AND their good judgement .... knowing how to both recognize and treat a lady. Offended? Not a chance!
Have a polite day.
