My neighbor gave me a really nice kitchen table (solid oak), a really nice couch & lazy boy recliner, a dresser and a really cute vanity w/ mirror & some other smaller things. I asked her how much she wanted to give her for all that & she said it wouldn't fit in her trailer, so if I didn't take it she was just going to throw it away. Which is good cuz I don't have much money right now. So how can I show my appreciation for all this stuff? She leaves 5am tomorrow!!

I asked a question on the Religion forum about Christianity asking how I should interpret a Bible verse. The only answers I got were people who said things like "Go to the nearest mental health institute" or "Don't bother, we don't want your Jesus." What should I do if this happens? I've gotten threats too.

I have a neighbor that constantly tells me what to do as if I am a child. Recently I found out the cherry Pepsi bottle that she has with her all of the time is not that at all. It's wine.By the end of the day-when she's pretty hammered, she will say the most stupid things..she once told a little neighbor girl that she may have a brain tumor ...because she had a headache.
Personally she has walked into my house uninvited, coments about my breasts, and has told me that I have no class because I wore a halter dress when I wAS GOING OUT WITH MY FIANCE'. (I wore that dress at my sisters wedding-my sister picked it out)How can I tell this woman in a kind way...to mind her own business?

For example, when you steal all the time & then decide that you're not gonna steal anymore, some smartass always says, "Yeah, um hmm. You're gonna go RIGHT back to doing it again! 'cuz I don't believe NOTHIN' you say." Like I owe them an answer!

I used stealing as an example, but you can apply it to a lot of things in life, like smoking, lying, speeding, doing drugs, etc.

BTW, I don't do these things, but someone gave me a dirty answer when I asked a question on here about trying to do the right things in life & start respecting my body, & someone said, "Yeah, you're gonna go RIGHT back to being promiscuous again!"

They're my former coworkers who want sex. I don't even answer the door, but they bam on my door @ 2 AM, for like 3 hours & do NOT give up! I ignore them, but it drives me crazy, & I can't get any sleep. & they say, "Kristina, open the door. I KNOW you're there!"

Should I get a bat & hit them upside the head with it? Buy some mace? I'm afraid that one day they're gonna bash my windows open & rape & kill me.

My next door neighbors are an elderly couple and the wife is on hospice due to cancer. The husband is relativley healthy and still works. I have never spoken to them, just waved from a distance. My husband ran into the gentleman while outside one day. He said he is having a hard time with everything. I would like to give them something to express our sympathy and offer a helping hand. Any suggestions?

job, and I need it. I know how to do my job, just learning a new area. I realize maybe she is trying to help in her own, rude way. It's how she talked to me that bothers me. I am doing well at the job,and want to get along. Should I tell her, hey, don't talk to me like that? She is not a boss. What would you do? Thank you for your input.

We are planning to hold our children's b-day parties from now on with a note on the invitation "monetary present is appreciated."

Guests are not obliged to give money only. I'd like to note this so guests can have an option. They can still give toys, clothes, etc as presents.

My husband thinks it makes it look like we are gold diggers. My points are: we will deposit this in our children's bank accts and I think its convenient for the giver to give money vs having to go to the store to buy what type of presents, the age of the child, will the child like this?.... and there are chances of duplication.

If you were one of my invitees, what would you think when the invitation read "monetary present is appreciated?"

These are those subwoofer systems. They both play these EXTREMELY loud movies with explosions. Movies like Independence Day or Saving Private Ryan. Every night. It sounds exactly like the volume of a movie theater. It goes through the wall like the wall was made of paper. I already nicely asked one of the neighbors to keep it down. It stopped for 2 weeks and now it is right back up to the same level. I could swear it is even louder now. It goes on pretty late too. What can I do about neighbors who just don't care. My apartment complex is notorious for doing nothing about noise complaints. That is actually one of the reasons why we moved to a new unit. They wouldn't do anything about out previous noisy neighbors. The cops here won't do anything unless they can hear the noise from outside and 100 feet away. The OUTSIDE walls are pure concrete. Therefore, they didn't do anything. I feel STUCK and defenseless! What can I do???!!!

She wears a small blue vest that says " therapy dog" . I use a scooter for mobility and she rides on it. How do I deal with people continually stoppping me and asking questions and trying to pet my dog. Many say "What kind of dog is that?" I say "Psychological service dog" They still proceed to ask more questions. I am upset by this and I do not have the energy to do my necessary errand and stop and answer all of them. I want to be left alone. I don't know how to communicate that without being rude. I think they are rude to keep questioning me after I tell them the dog is there for psychological reasons. any advice?

Growing up my step mom was perfect in every way. She kept the house spick and span. Kids weren't allowed to have blankets in the living room and not allowed to lay on the couch at all. Everytime there a spill she cleans it up right away. No shoes worn in home. No friends of mine were allowed over cause they might mess up house. Wasn't allowed to do art inside. At age 18 I wasn't allowed to cook 4myself [she feared a fire} or cut my own cake[might mess cake up}. Is this normal?

i figured that i would get out of the invite so she doesnt have to feel so forced to keep me on her invite list.

i have known about this event for a long time now, so simply saying that something overlaps with it wont do.

she likes to keep her conversations professional and can easily be offended.

can anyone give me options of what to say to get out of the invite???

Why has everyone developed the words "It's like" into their vocabulary. Either it is something or it isn't. "It's like.... you know... " I think it's left over Valley Girl Talk that made it's way mainstream. It's like... I don't expect to change the world.. but it's like... i'd really like to know how it started. "It's like...OMG" STOP... already. It's like... I can't take it anymore. Anyways, that aside... I just want to know who started this saying. Was it in a song? or a popular TV show? It's like... can anyone tell me? and like... don't talk smack to me! No question is stupid. (That was probably true until the invention of Yahoo Answers)

Early this morning I was running in our suburban neighborhood - all of a sudden my insides were going to explode, and I wasn't going to make it to a bathroom. I had to discreetly squat against the side of a condo building behind some bushes. I barely managed to leave the scene of the crime without being seen by cars driving by. I feel terrible about leaving the mess under the porch of these people's house, and I would rather go back and clean it up. This being California, there won't be any rain to help clean the mess for another 5 months, and I'm sure some unfortunate person will discover it at some point. BUT, I'm afraid that if I do go back to clean I really will be discovered and will have to try to explain why I'm snooping around this building. This is really an embarrassing situation - WHAT SHOULD I DO?!?!?

A few days ago i went to Old Navy, and purchased a few pair of pants. I got the pants size that I normally wear not knowing that the sizes differe from stor to store. when i got home I wanted to show my mom how they looked on me. To my shock and horror They were to tight. I got a bit depressed about it and was on the edge of tears. My mama simply told me about the size difference. When I went to exchange them the customer sevice girl asked why i wanted to return them and I said that I wanted to exchange them b/c they didnt fit like i would like them too. When I turned to walk away she says, and i quote, "I cant stand fat *** people that try to buy smaller sizes to make them selves feel bettter! How pathtic!". Normally I have good ontrol over my emotions but that made tears come to my eyes. I turned and said that I hoped she has a better day. I was so upset i forgot to exchange them or get my money back. What should i do about it?

I guess it's just me but, here at work, often people in my department whom I've worked with on occasion, sometimes even people on my own team, will just ignore me when we pass by in the hallway or in the kitchen. To me, it's common courtesy to say "hi", at least acknowledge, give a quick smile or even a simple eyebrow raise. But, I guess I'm in the minority. If you work with people, wouldn't you want to show just a little professional courtesy? It's not that everyone is this way but, most people seem to be. Our office environment is not stuffy or overly-corporate. It's very open and youthful. I guess it's just another example of how common courtesy and politeness is slowly deteriorating in this country. Sad. Don't even get me started on other drivers!
