Growing up my step mom was perfect in every way. She kept the house spick and span. Kids weren't allowed to have blankets in the living room and not allowed to lay on the couch at all. Everytime there a spill she cleans it up right away. No shoes worn in home. No friends of mine were allowed over cause they might mess up house. Wasn't allowed to do art inside. At age 18 I wasn't allowed to cook 4myself [she feared a fire} or cut my own cake[might mess cake up}. Is this normal?

It's called obsessive compulsive disorder. Someone who has to control every aspect of everyone's lives. It's controllable with meds and therapy.

normal is such a relative term that it is almost imposable to define. some behaviors like no shoes in the House are actually healthy because shoes track in pollen animal excrement and other bad bacteria from out side but put it all together and she sounds like an obsessive compulsive disorder, if you feel this has made you a nervous anxious scared or you are over compensating my being very messy to not turn out like her or that it has negatively affect you in any way then positive affirmations and counseling is always good

Not really. She sounds a bit controlling. Have you proved to her that you can clean up after yourself? Maybe if she'd give you an opportunity to have an art project inside or cook dinner yourself (while she is there) and you did a great job of cleaning up she would trust you enough to start loosening up.
Good luck with that.

There is no such thing as "normal" -- only "average."

Just because something is done by a majority of the people does not necessarily make it "normal."

To answer another way, it IS normal for a person with OCD.
